The timeline for the IPCC to publish the next assessment report is perhaps going to be pushed back by a coalition led by Saudi Arabia, Russia, and India.

From Brittany Trang's excellent AI in healthcare newsletter:

"investment firm 8VC’s head of health care, Sebastian Caliri, simultaneously dismissed some of [a report's] main points. 'There is a somewhat lazy meme circulating about how ‘AI is increases the cost of healthcare’ - which is strictly speaking true today but in a general sense, totally false,' he said"

????

I bet this guy also has an office to focus in 🤣

I am so jealous of this guy

As I walk the dog I'm ruminating over yesterday's training, where someone from HR came and taught us about Getting Things Done. I have read the book already and am anyway very attached to my kanban board, so I was feeling a little grumpy at having to spend the time on this meeting. Then the trainer showed his own calendar to teach us how to block off time for focus work.

HE HAS 19 HOURS OF FOCUS TIME THIS WEEK

And he also had a 1-hour prep period for this 1-hour GTD training that he does routinely.

Hi #Boston folks, please tell me your acupuncture recommendations.

But at least PubMed makes the assumptions built into ATM visible :)

Because the current setup is great if you want to persuade users that PubMed's search and relevance ranking don't work and they should ask a chatbot for reading suggestions instead🤦‍♂️

Well I just wrote to our friends at NLM to suggest changing the PubMed Automated Term Mapping for the query AI from its current operationalization

"antagonists and inhibitors"[Subheading] OR ("antagonists"[All Fields] AND "inhibitors"[All Fields]) OR "antagonists and inhibitors"[All Fields] OR "ai"[All Fields]

to something that better aligns with the goal of every PubMed user who types in AI to the search box, such as

"Artificial Intelligence"[mh] OR "artificial intelligence"[tiab] OR AI[tiab]

Is it normal for arXiv preprints to have the branding of the authors' institution and funder thus on the PDF?

@renata WTF?!

'…Waymo told safe street advocates that bike lane-awareness is “too high a bar,” because customers want to be dropped off in them.’

I’m failing to see why legally this is even remotely relevant. It would be like allowing them to speed or run red lights because customers want to go faster.

"The most sensitive of those contracts – running the NHS’s federated data platform – is up for renewal and the mood music out of No 10 is that Andy Burnham is considering UK alternatives. That is also the context in which Palantir has hired a high profile politician to fight its corner: Tom Watson, the former deputy leader of the Labour party, and now Lord Watson of Wyre Forest. The man who previously took on Rupert Murdoch and spoke up about “surveillance capitalism” during the Cambridge Analytica scandal is now providing cover for a man who believes freedom and democracy are “incompatible”."

To opt out of slop on Libby, click on the little reader icon in the middle and scroll down to settings and click on “content controls”. Then just set everything to “human only.”

ROTFL the book will keep playing if you switch to a different app, but it will stop playing if you navigate to a different part of the Palace app, like settings or browsing other books 🤯

All this is to say: if you know anyone at Lyrasis, please tell them that I will do free UX testing for them
(Once. And if anything gets improved, I will do it more times if they want :) )

But after you pause the book from that bar, you can't *unpause* it from there.

If you drag down from the top of the screen while Palace is playing a book, you *can* pause it, but you *cannot* tap the... I don't know the word, the bar for the app currently playing audio? You can't tap that to bring that app up to the front of the screen, and the skip back / skip forward buttons in that bar don't work

I know that Palace does downloads (not just streaming) because there's a setting (unchecked by default) to avoid downloading on cellular data. But telling whether a particular audiobook is downloaded? If you can do that I don't see how

Ok, I had to touch "ok" four times to get the notification to go away, which feels like classic Palace ;)
