A cloud of mosquitos has been following me around Washington Square Park.
I had to move benches multiple times, and inevitably they’d appear over my head again.
This is not what I meant when I said I love vampires 😭

Meant to post this pencil crayon drawing for cephalopod week, but was interrupted, mid post. #cephalopod #pencilcrayon #underwater #squid #art #drawing #fantasy
Almost 50% of the S&P500. This seems reasonable. How high will it go?
#Zelensky: "When our strikes reached #Yandex’s #datacenters, it suddenly became a little easier to breathe on many #socialMedia platforms. A lot of people noticed it. There was less hate, less division, and fewer provocations. Because there were fewer #bots. It’s pretty clear where those bots were"
I’m on vacation this week, and I’m currently spending my first day playing Elden Ring on the Switch. Loving life at the moment!
Went thru a Dunkin drive-through today and couldn't scrounge enough change to pay for a coffee in cash and felt like an ass for a second. When I handed over my credit card, the lady at the payment window handed me the payment terminal and told me how to operate it, saying select your tip amount and then hit pay. I was floored.
IDK if this is Dunkin policy, but if it is that's abhorrent and embarrassing for everyone involved. Not just because I'm getting sick of everyone expecting a tip for everything, but because companies apparently encourage this kind of crap instead of paying a living wage.
This weekend, was at a Giant near the beach and only one lane was open but they had about 12 self-checkouts, and all of them had people who were clearly very confused about using these machines, and almost all of them had "assistance requested" yellow blinking lights above their registers. After watching this for a few minutes, the guy behind me goes, "I'm not sure they're getting the efficiency gains they expect with this whole self checkout thing." I replied, well, it's hard. You see, they have to train each customer how to do a job that was once done by employees.
Very proud of my wife (@beckiereedartist on Instagram) who has been working incredibly hard these last few months towards a solo show @rutlandgallery in Uppingham, Rutland. The exhibition starts on Saturday 3rd October. https://www.rutlandgallery.com/beckie-reed-exhibition #art #painting

This is about most of the modern economy.
While listening to council meetings in Montreal, local mayor Sue Montgomery decided to knit in red when men spoke and in green when women spoke, when similar numbers of both attended. Day 1 results ...

So here in Northeast #USA we just had a big #noreaster. Which is a lot of wind and rain, an extratropical cyclone
In #NewJersey someone saw a freaking #shark in their flooded driveway swimming around
It's been identified as a smooth dogfish. Small and harmless:

However!
It makes people jumpy because the original "Jaws" book/ movie was inspired by an outbreak of shark attacks in New Jersey, including fatal attacks in an inland creek, in 1916:

Trying something new with this portrait of Cléo de Mérode. She was a French dancer (active from 1886-1924) who debuted at the Paris Opera at only 11 years old. By 19 she was already a famous beauty, and the first woman ever whose photos were distributed worldwide.
The title for this piece is a term that was used in French society to call women promiscuous, basically courtesans. de Mérode dealt with multiple scandals that attached that insult to her, for accusations that she denied. Despite them, she remained successful.
I wanted to paint her as soon as I came across a photo of her while browsing Reddit the other day. Working from black-and-white historical photos allows me to be freer with my colors, and I definitely went a bit wild here but I really love how it turned out. This woman was an exceptional beauty, and an exceptional color palette suits her features.

I am working on trying to be less afraid of people. It’s hard.
I freak out when I get DM requests even on professional accounts where I literally ask for inquiries about certain topics, just waiting for the other shoe to drop.
And I flinch whenever anyone comes into the office bathroom while I’m there or when I’m tapped on the shoulder.
Ugh. Trauma work is hard y’all, my body is still so hyper vigilant all the time.
My daughter was reading the latest Ed Zitron piece (link below) and as an accounting student she just HAD to make a few memes.
I am SO PROUD OF HER.

I realized that, even though I don't use LLMs for work, the fact that they exist was making me feel inadequate whenever I felt I wasn't operating at LLM-like speeds. And because I'm generally not, this was making me miserable.
So I'm telling myself, and whoever else needs to hear it, to stop comparing yourself to the slop machines. Thinking calmly and thoroughly is worth something, even in an age where society at large seems to believe they can replace it with pushing a button.
