I’ll never forgive you all for making non-tech people know about tech against their will lol

22nd of Owltober!
It's Chewbacca in Owl form. Perth Wildlife Hospital posted this Australian Boobook with the caption "The look I give the vet nurse before I receive medication for my eye ulcerations." Want to donate to PWH? https://www.pwh.org.au/donate/ Source: https://fb.com/4326788047353227 #owlsintowels 💛🦉
It looks like the PHP Armageddon bug may have been a bit overstated in that exploits require severe-level pre-existing vulnerabilities
If I'm to be completely honest, though, "has pre-existing severe code-level vulnerability" describes a lot of the PHP sites I've seen in the wild.
"In Her Kitchen" was created by the American contemporary realist painter Vincent Giarrano.
Our dog trainer took this picture of Ole today. He was having fun.
The title of this article is extremely misleading
"A First Nation community in Canada is using a data center to preserve its heritage"
What the author refers to as a "data center" is
- "[a]bout the size of a single-car garage"
- in the hands of the Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory
- not owned by a big tech company
- NOT used for LLM training.
That's not a data center. It's a server room.

Someone at the makerspace last week asked how I seemingly know how to use every tool from sewing machines to soldering irons and lathes to lasers, and my reply was that my favourite thing to do is learn. Whenever people ask what I want to _do_ with a skill I’m learning I often have no response, I just love learning things to learn them and get good at them. I’ll definitely find uses later, but it’s not why I learn stuff.
Should we have a special tax rate for the super rich in Australia? #AUSpol
The existence of “plumber” implies the existence of … holy shit

666 votes? That's... amusing to me.
Quite an even race!
Solar is BOOMING in the Philippines and beyond as fossilflation fuelled by the war on Iran sends energy bills soaring.
But upfront costs put solar out of reach for too many.
Governments must make decentralised renewables like wind and solar affordable for everyone NOW.
@mosgaard og værre endnu

Here's my summary of why websites are offline right now, and why nerds are laughing at the number 4.
I've attempted to explain the jargon in use, so those interested but not working in tech have a chance at understanding what's going on.

Really sad to see people I respected take a big dump on PHP today. It was unnecessary. This is open source. Things run on too few donations and mostly unpaid work.
These people work hard. They deal with entitled users in bug trackers. They sift through slop reports and slop contributions. They have to defend their infra from thieves who can afford to lose more money in an hour than they will not make in a lifetime. They have to drop everything when their unpaid project has an emergency.
❗️Denmark will provide a $112.6 million state-backed loan guarantee to Fire Point's Danish subsidiary to help launch production in Southern Jutland. The financing will be provided through Denmark's Export and Investment Fund because the war prevents the company from borrowing on normal terms. Copenhagen says locating Ukrainian defense production abroad will better protect it from Russian attacks and strengthen cooperation between Ukrainian and Danish defense industries. #Ukraine
