omg it's back google groups Usenet posts are back

But! glad to know the bootleggers market is alive and well amongst my peers 🐢

Four people have offered me copies. I don't need them! I need web urls to stay valid for just long enough for me to capture them or also just *because* I want the web to be not made up of five walled gardens

oh no I've become a person that only uses social media to raise an issue up to the internet gods in a woeful plea, not the standard complaint machine known both as "everyday entertainment complaining" and "just posting"

optimistically it could be they're getting updates like a Disney World refurbishment kind of thing but optimism feels foolish in the face of current conditions

a bot attack thing? this is the worst fucking part, the open web is disappearing and I'm watching it happen

update!: I'm told this is likely a temporary thing 🪩

wait I'm pissed off, IASA took their technical publications (TC-04, TC-05) offline. I was building an *open* syllabus around these!!! Does anyone know what's up with that?

I've had this problem intermittently but increasingly for around a month! There's still stuff I need to grab/capture!

worried this is the "not with a bang but with a whimper" part of losing a massive amount of historical data (usenet groups that aren't archived elsewhere), so crossed fingers they pop some bot protection over this instead of letting it rot like so many other abandoned Google products...? https://support.google.com/groups/thread/464695673/429-too-many-requests-for-several-days-when-trying-to-view-group?hl=en
