Roads have been traced, building have been traced. Have they been traced to the same alignment? No of course not, that would be too easy to correct.

#OpenStreetMap

Google have announced that they're killing Google Earth Pro.

There will be no more desktop Google Earth after June 25, 2027, just the terrible web and mobile apps.

Does anyone know which script on the bbc.co.uk website is the one that detects if you are connecting from "outside the UK " and re-directs you to their terrible bbc.com site instead?

And preferably how to block it?

It gets as far as showing the home page before yanking the stories I want to see out from under my mouse cursor and replacing them with stuff that's less relevant.

Do some #OpenStreetMap editors get paid by the node?

In what world does this match the imagery?

Mastodon is really in need of a quick "filter all responses to this post" button tonight.

Apparently the UK Government has a consultation going on about the extent to which evidence generated by software should be considered reliable in court.

Given the number of developers and sysadmins there seem to be around these parts I thought it was worth sharing here for anyone who might have something constructive they'd like to submit.

OK, so while the "external" storage folder used to be

... \Internal shared storage\osmtracker

It is now:

... \Internal shared storage\Android\data\net.osmtracker\files\osmtracker

because _of course_ every android app has a different idea about what the file path is, why would anyone ever need to know where something was or why there are now two copies of it?

oh osmtracker ... where have you put the files?

I know you exported them somewhere because my phone complained about storage space. But where?

The old folder hasn't had a track added to it for 7 months, so where are the new exports?

Why does #JOSM complain about `building=construction` without `construction=*` if it's perfectly happy with `building=yes`?

#OpenStreetMap

Does #Mastodon have a way to mute/filter all posts from a specific domain unless someone in a given feed boosts them?

So I wouldn't see their posts in the federated feed unless someone my instance is aware of actively boosts them?

I don't want to use this as a generic feed reader, but I am sometimes interested in boosted articles.

:boost_ok:

It's just taken me like 15 minutes to find out that all the "@symbol_property_you_want_to_reuse" variables in #QGIS are documented under https://docs.qgis.org/3.34/en/docs/user_manual/expressions/functions_list.html#variables where they of course do not appear with their preceding @ symbol and consequently CAN'T BE FOUND IN ONLINE SEARCHES except in random Stack Exchange posts that of course don't link to the docs.

Why aren't these just listed in the middle pane of the expression dialog with all the other variables??

@OSM_diaries_bot @MapAmore
These toots often say that the diary entries are in another language, but the toots are always labelled as being in EN.

Would it be possible to propagate the diary language to the toot language?

That would allow people to curate which diary entries they see in their feed if they don't like running things through a translator.

"I mean, this is impressive work for a camera that is on fire".

I think that's got to be the best quote from Veritatium's new Thermite video?

I didn't expect to see an interview with someone contributing to osmhydrant in "The secret economics of Google Street View"

#OpenStreetMap

Does anyone else find Mastodon's display of a thread confusing?

A straight run of posts is simple enough with a line going from profile pic to profile pic, but anything more involved has lines starting and stopping at post boundaries in ambiguous ways.

Does that particular line originate from the top post or one of the intermediate ones?

Is Sunday the first day of the week, or the last of the week? Please boost for visibility, trying to see something!

Why is there an #OpenStreetMap changeset covering a huge swath of North and South America?

Because we have timezone relations now for some reason.

Why? Why do we have these? They're terrible.

Version 207 and my browser won't even load the history because the website times out. I need to check JOSM to see that it's only 2 years old. On average each version lasts less than 4 days.

If we have to have this data, surely there's a better way?
