    “soft skills” are “power-with” skills!

When trust leaves, and fear walks the hallways:

“It quietly shapes culture. It’s become acutely apparent in meetings where the leader asks, “Any thoughts?” but lacks the skills to invite real dialogue. The result? Either a few people speak and that is taken as the group’s consensus, or silence, which is mistaken for agreement. Over time, psychological safety erodes, until only the safest, shallowest, and superficial ideas”

I can see the need, in HBR in 2026, to say “power skills” if you want to run a power-with message through it… (smiles wryly)… And I like the version I had to transfer it into (power-with skills) to make it work (for me).

@RuthMalan „power skills“ is a great word for this. I used „behavioral skills/ competency“ for a while. But „power skill“ likely sounds more attractive for the people that need them most.

@RuthMalan @jchyip I’d like to have seen more about how to ensure that turning up and talking to the help would convince them to tell the truth. There are plenty of orgs where that’s career suicide. (don’t discuss unionizing with Schulz).
