    I used to use dark mode a lot but I've realised that while it's technically easier on the eyes overall, white text on a dark background fuckin SUCKS to read

    @welshpixie It feels like the best contrast is just black text on white background, to be honest

    If it's too much then it's likely just that my room is too dark or the brightness on my screen is too high, rather than the actual whiteness of the screen being the problem in and of itself

    @purplemontart ah not for me - has to be dark grey text on off-white background, or very light grey text on dark grey background, or matching contrasts in different colours (like masto's dark mode background is dark blue and that's good).

    @welshpixie I will say that in general I don't like reading long blocks of text on a monitor, I'd much rather use my e-reader if possible. Snippets and visuals are fine

    @welshpixie @purplemontart
    Light-on-dark for me is less bad when the contrast is not up to 100%.
    For me personally, black on off-white might be better than black on white, but black on white is not a problem the way white on black is.

    Bottom line: People are different :D

    @purplemontart Yeah. When I try to read white on dark background, after a few minutes at most I get weird effects like horizontal bands scrolling over that area of screen, and it's just no good.
