Company fines should be a percentage of revenue, not piddly little things like fining a multi-billion dollar company a few tens of millions

I used to use dark mode a lot but I've realised that while it's technically easier on the eyes overall, white text on a dark background fuckin SUCKS to read

People saying a 1 metre tsunami isn't a big deal have never been around a tsunami before

A 50cm tsunami will kill you more likely than not because you'll be knocked down and unable to get up

Finished Mano Serieso 2, was overall very pleasant to watch

I also realised I have indeed seen it but just forgot most of it, and as someone who generally doesn't rewatch things the fact that I still found it enjoyable says a fair bit

Now to watch Boba Fett's Big Book of Crime, and if the reviews are anything to go off of, remember that Temeura Morrison narrating paint dry would enthrall me

There's a youtuber, Rye, who does videos on like dead games, badly rated games, etc

In one video about two months ago he came across someone in a game who spoke only Russian, and later found out he was deaf

Since then Rye has been spending hours upon hours making subtitles for his videos, on his own

It made me teary eyed, genuinely

He does have the issue of all his thumbnails being identical lmao

I love when old games are like "and she was the most beautiful woman I'd ever seen" and it's four pixels

I wish Ungoliant was my ancestor :(

I'm of the opinion that there is no such thing as too many artists. The more art there is, the better for everyone

A lot of it will be dross but a lot of it will also just be artists being new

It's why I like things like Vocaloid

I had a semi-argument mostly discussion with my dad and the boyfriend of one of my sisters a few Christmases back, they were GENERALLY against the idea but only because they don't really consider someone an artist unless it's all they do

Which... what?

Slow Horses on Apple TV is pretty good

Hey what's smaller than an ounce. Like when people say something is 3.5 ounces, what's that without a decimal point

Like 3.5g is 3500mg

I've been cooking for myself again recently, after about a six month break, experimenting with mixing up the basic stews and soups (including cooking chicken for the first time I am 33 years old) and I'd forgotten how satisfying it is

And of course it always tastes better, because I can season it myself and add whatever I want, but eating what you've made is just a good, comforting feeling

Funny how :3 now means "is in their thirties"

I'm aware that the real issue is that I can't read Korean and need it romanised, that's a failing on my part

But why on earth does Busan get romanised with a b when it's a p sound

I can only imagine it's intended to stick one letter with one letter, except the romanisation changes based on position of the sound (ㅂ is initially romanised as b but finally as p), while the Korean letter doesn't

Maybe it's just one of the numerous issues with transliteration

#korean #hangul #romanisation

This crops up from time to time but remember before travelling CHECK WHAT MEDICATIONS YOU'RE ON ARE LEGAL OR ILLEGAL IN YOUR TARGET COUNTRY and ask the embassy if you're unsure

Adderall is illegal in Japan even with a prescription, and it catches Americans out all the time (You can't get adderall in the UK and I think one of the common alternatives is fine)

Travel smart

Why do vampires in media always go after teenagers. Can we get some that go after middle aged people, or even the elderly. People they might be able to actually connect with

Anyway Vampeerz is nice despite that

"Wisdom tooth" is a calque of a Latin word that's a calque of an Arabic word that's a calque of a Greek word

Other examples of calques in English are "it goes without saying" from French "ça va sans dire" and "long time no see" from Chinese "好久不見" (hǎojiǔ bùjiàn)

Even "Wednesday" is ultimately a calque from Latin "Mercurii dies", Mercury being interpreted by Germanic tribes as being Odin, thus Wodanesdag

Once again, my favourite linguistics thing.

A calque is a word or words borrowed from another language whole being translated.

A loanword is a word borrowed from another language without the spelling, at least, being changed.

"Calque" is a loanword of the French "calque".

"Loanword" is a calque of the German "Lehnwort"

More like Pissinger

I've used the same Minecraft skin for god damn ever
