The ability to prevent Google employees from reading your LLM chats and training further models from them is tied to the feature that saves chats longer than 72 hours. This can't be legal in the EU, can it?
Does anyone know how to fix the stupid problem in Firefox for Android where it reloads the page and loses all your form data if you switch away to another app for more than ten seconds?
A git repository that contains .patch files to be applied to another git repository... that's an anti-pattern, right? #programming
I just triggered a colleague's automatic out-of-office reply, and it was in Klingon. There is hope for this company yet.
Uhh, does everyone know there's a big-ass cult building in #Berlin? (It's not Scientology).
Uhhh okay. I did it. I replaced the battery in my phone. I hated every minute.
I removed the glass backplate and it shattered... Because it's glass... A completely unsuitable material for a backplate. And then I got a million tiny screws out. And then I had to peel off the old battery, which was terrifying.
Plugging in the new battery socket was nearly impossible. It was so small!
And now, reassembled, the shattered backplate is poking out a half millimeter because the glue is no longer set. Or I did something wrong.
But it's done.
New battery. Let's see if it lasts as it should.
Whenever I post something here I only get engagement from the same six people... which is cool, because I love these six people! I think they're great.
I'm just thinking maybe it's time to pack up this account and start a mailing list instead.
Not a substack. Eww. I mean a real mailing list.
I decided that instead of buying a new phone I am gonna replace the battery in my current one.
I have to use a heat gun to melt glue and pull the glass back out.
I have all the tools and equipment now.
But I am so scared.
Programmers: "we're replacing GNU coreutils"
Wh....why?!
"It's rewritten in Rust."
Oh so it will be more secure and maintainable. Makes sense. I assume it's still under the GNU Public License, right?

Heute ist der einzigen Tag vor dem Regen kommt, denn man kann seine Herbstkleidung tragen. Genieße es. #berlin
There are these cheap and nifty soy milk makers on sale. You put dry soybeans and water in and push a button. It soaks, heats, cooks, and blends the beans into milk. Okay... but what about straining the bean chunks out? You have to do that manually? Isn't that the most annoying part?
Anyone have one of these machines? What am I missing?
Machinedrum is the Brian Eno of bass music. Just flies around the world and hangs out with DJs and producers of varying levels of fame, and by the time he leaves there's an absolutely banger EP out.
My experience learning a new language is that it's difficult and frustrating. It takes a long time. I hate it. But I'm now at the point where I think I can feel my brain getting rewired at its lowest levels. It feels incredibly weird, but exciting.
The shilluk people had a practice where they killed their kings at the end, when they became senile. weak or lead disastrous wars
27 years since I was in high school, and I'm currently living on another continent, but the kids are still doing this thing.
At work, we are merely days away from someone opening GitHub PR #42069. Nice.
Why does my neighborhood smell like roast beef?
Which is to say... it's not like Canada hasn't arrogantly renamed geographic landmarks in the past (e.g. Tunnel Mountain in Banff). But I thought we globally got over that shit over a hundred years ago.
Somebody told me that the US government renamed Lake Ontario to Lake America, and I didn't believe it because it's the most stupid, insensitive, and meaningless thing you could do. But it's real. And Google is happy to just capitulate and plop it in there.
