@theruran Yeah, I'm finding the content and format of the READMEs can be an early, obvious sign of a slopped project.

Czeslaw Miłosz on the writing life in 1992:

"Of course, it’s true that people talk too much and without restraint. But poetry imposes certain restraints. Nevertheless, there is always the feeling that you didn’t unveil yourself enough. A book is finished and appears and I feel, Well, next time I will unveil myself. And when the next book appears, I have the same feeling. And then your life ends, and that’s it."

Spent some time today observing this sculpture: three views of Anthony Gormley’s standing figure Sound II.

Hard to describe why this is such a moving experience.

"I still am."

Hi! I'm doing NaNoWriMo (2.0) again for the first time since the 1.0 implosion, and I wanted to share some helpful links from their new website!

"Our 2026 Roundup of Writing Communities & Challenges to Explore"

https://nano2.org/posts/2026/our-2026-round-up-of-writing-communities-challenges-to-explore/

"The NaNo 2.0 Tracker—Getting Started"

https://nano2.org/tracker-getting-started/

Four days to go, and I'm still trying to get ready. :blob_sweat:

(NaNo 2.0 is a reboot of the original idea, headed by the original founder, and helped along by people who weren't part of what led to 1.0's implosion)

(I'm not associated, just a fan since 2006, hoping this version recaptures the soul)

Someone announced in our class last week that men don't cry and for the first time in my life, I publicly hit back and said, "I do". Many in the class were shocked and didn't believe me, so I explained how I've always cried. When I was young, it was secretly but as an adult, I cry when emotion overwhelms me. I don't see it as a sign of weakness anymore. I think it's a sign of strength to accept what your body needs to do and I feel much better afterwards.

My queer sci-fi-ish book ‘The Boy From Elsewhere’ is currently 40% off via the Bezosphere.

It’s full price to buy it direct but I get more of the royalties that way.

Either way, if just half my followers picked up a copy, wherever in the world they are, I’d get a desperately needed boost.

Times are hard for creatives. Queer creatives doubly so. Please consider grabbing a cool book and supporting this one?

I went down some kind of rabbithole of French sacred wells last night and here's a pretty great website/database of them if you need a pleasant distraction

whenever we are taught, or learn, or create something based on the work of others, we are, in some way, benefitting from their effort, whether it be the conference speaker you listened to, or the linesman who ensured the electricity supply to your computer. if you study the design of a bass guitar, perhaps you may be appropriating the work of its builder when building your own. but none of these examples seem close to the kind of industrial-scale commodification we're talking about here

thinking about the differences in outlooks between people which have been exposed by genAI, and i think one part may just come down to whether you intuitively use a labor theory of value to appraise and attribute works. i do, so i feel the scraping and mechanical abstraction of others' effort might be some form of plagiarism or theft. to others, though, it is the marginal utility gained by the appropriation of that effort which justifies apportioning rewards to those who do so
