@atpfm Re the full disk access controversy: a while ago I developed a small cli utility with the help of chatgpt. The concept is similar to pbcopy, but you provide a filepath and it puts a file reference in the clipboard, meaning if you paste in finder or whatever app it actually copies the whole file, not just the contents of the file. I implemented it in swift and obj-c, both worked, and I wanted to test wether there was any performance difference but I stopped for lunch…1/2

@atpfm Two Teslas. Lots of FSD miles. Driven in all kinds of conditions. Definitely try out the latest version before making a judgement.

@atpfm Full Disk Access segment reminded me of a thing from when I was still jailbreaking iPhone – please just give me a very-hard-to-get-to “I know computers, I promise I won’t call you for help” mode. I don’t care if I have to compile it from source and re-install macOS, just stop treating me like I need James Bond-level security especially because in the last 20 years none of these dialogs have ever helped me.

@atpfm so you were talking about increasing cache on the new chips. All caching levels before the DRAM is made of SRAM. Unlike DRAM, which uses very specialized fab processes and fundamentally different construction of transistors that are incompatible with standard logic chips, SRAM is made of regular transistors, identical to the rest of the transistors on the chip. 1/10

@atpfm @caseyliss If the KVM solution doesn't end up being good enough, what about playing around with the Android app instead? Reverse engineering the APK is out of the question since they'll probably be using attestation as well; but you could try running it on an emulator (which is most likely blocked as well but worth a try, and could maybe be worked around) or on the world's cheapest Android device. You'd be able to do whatever you need to remote control it with ADB, without a KVM.

@atpfm I’d agree somewhat on the comments about AI in that it’s unlikely to go away.

I’m still not sure you can claim to be the creator of something AI wrote. It doesn’t matter about experience. Does that even really add anything if non-programming podcasters can make saleable apps?

It’s still not clear if you’re just handing over the training to allow others to copy your apps. The issue with the mathematician highlights an issue that’s no going to be just a math issue. m.youtube.com/watch?v=SoLWCYnc

@atpfm re “delicious apps” and AI coding. The app I’m creating supports themes. On a whim I asked AI to create a theme with 16bit pixel graphics. It did it, and I think it looks great. It did take a bunch of tweaking, but it’s something I wouldn’t have done without AI, as there was plenty of important things to do, as opposed to fun and whimsy things to do.

@atpfm I drive manually like a luddite, but I like the Waymo cars, because they drive chill, so there’s a lot less bobbing-and-weaving BMWs and Nissan Maxima stuff

@atpfm Seriously, showing any dialog that the user (or AI agent) needs to dismiss after updating the operating system is bad design. A notification would be more appropriate.

@atpfm @siracusa I had to pay the Apple Developer fee just so a script could reliably access Safari bookmarks. So many apps are not scriptable but use SQLite. Please no encryption at rest.
