If you were tutoring adults who could read but hadn't done much of it, which books would you suggest? Assume intellectual curiosity, but possibly somewhere between a third to sixth grade level of exposure.

Books should not be long, but they could be fiction or non-fiction. PLEASE, no self-help books.
