THE SWEET MAY-FLOWER

Oh sweet May-flower so fresh and fair
Blooming in the soft spring air
On meadow-land and green hedgerow
White lacy patterns you bestow
To beautify each country lane
And magnify your brief sweet reign
Your tiny fragrant modest flowers
Setting tone for Spring's last hours
Before bright Summer's gaudy dress
O'er shadows your shy loveliness
So soon to fade and disappear
Yet to bloom another year
So once again your lovely spray
Will greet the merry month of may.
