US Election Day feels like it was a really big deal for the fediverse. I didn’t hear anything about Linux for about 20 hours.

White people, I’m assigning you homework. Please read this guide on how to help #BlackMastodon flourish. It’s your responsibility!

Ideally, don’t just read it, but start taking some small actions in response. But start with a close read and an openness to being uncomfortable. 👍

DO NOT MAIL YOUR BALLOTS

Return your ballot to an official county drop box or polling place.

Thurston County, WA reports suspiciously long USPS mail delays, resulting in uncounted ballots, as they arrived long after the certification deadline.

Overly pleased that there was not a single firework to be heard or seen at this remote location in the #SierraNevada mountains yesterday. 💪

Good morning!

In May, for the first time, the US produced more electricity from solar than from coal. 💪👏😎

I walk by this one fence all the time, and no matter the weather, the yellow-green lichen just pierces my eyes. I’ve never seen such day-glow fluorescence on a natural object before. A photo doesn’t quite capture the intensity of it, but here’s one (with no color adjustments).

Many thanks to @Tender for writing up these nice instructions on how to prep video for #Mastodon, without which my previous post never could have happened. Bookmark this post to reference in the future, should you ever attempt to post a video file here:

Lots of rain yesterday. Then the sun came out and the redwoods began steaming. Truly magical. 💖

P.S. I don’t think Notion or Asana or anything that charges per user fees could work for us.

I’d love something that gives a project management view to the admins (ie core team) but a task-specific view to individual volunteers (ie do this one thing on this day, check it off so we know you did it, oh and I’ll auto-nag you for an update if it isn’t checked off)

SignUpGenius is used for volunteer signups for one-off commitments — it’s OK but not a whole big picture project management tool.

If no one has built this yet, I swear I will build it and yes I’m naming it HerdingCats.app.

Yes, that is a threat

Quick: You’re a small #nonprofit #volunteer-run organization. What #tool(s) do you use for project management (planning and execution) to make sure all those volunteers are keeping things moving forward?

(Basically I am looking for HerdingCats.app that ideally is low-cost or free and with a smooth UI accessible to very non-tech audience!)

Good morning! A question for you:

Are there any #brands whose presence in the #fediverse you enjoy or appreciate? Who is doing #Mastodon right?

I’m asking because we run a small, family business, #Oolie. We are a Certified #BCorp with certified #organic products. We are helping families get better, safer sleep — all without exploiting anyone along our supply chain.

We do not have an ad budget or a #SocialMedia team — it’s just the two of us. Corporate social media is a 🗑️🔥 and exists only to serve itself. We use it, reluctantly, but need an exit strategy.

I would genuinely love to know of any brands here that you feel are really connecting with people and being helpful.

Boosts appreciated! ♥️

Happy to be a supporter of the ever-innovative @ProPublica 😘💅

What do you think about these three new patterns? We have to choose one to print on baby clothes, but we can’t decide which one we like best!

Can’t #sleep, or not #sleeping well?

Check out our free, self-paced, 5-day email course, “Better Sleep in Less Than a Week.”

https://oolie.com/bettersleep

My wife is a clinical psychologist and, not to brag (well, maybe), but she is *really* good at treating sleep issues. Her patients see vastly improved sleep, and it’s transformative.

And I have years of experience in online teaching and learning. So we decided to team up and co-produce this course. She’s the subject matter expert; I’m the instructional designer. 😁

I’m pretty happy with the end result — five days, and each day we email you a brief lesson and an interactive activity. You can do it all from your phone, if you want. I don’t think I can legally guarantee results, but I feel pretty confident if you sign up and actually do the activities (they’re short!), you’ll notice you’re sleeping better.

Made a page for all the #MastodonForHarris avatars and banners!

I updated my #MastodonForHarris profile banner. Feel free to use it yourself!

Design note: Colors and typography deliberately do *not quite* match that of the campaign. It’s in between the campaign’s visual language and also Mastodon’s. It’s intentionally a bit off… much like the #fediverse itself. 😁

Thanks to @heidilifeldman
for inspiring this and organizing the massively successful fundraising.

Let’s go, #Harris2024!

Hi, sfba.social! Allow me to #introduction myself.

I just moved here from pdx.social. I can’t be summed up in a single toot, but… I love #design, #architecture, #photography, #redwoods, the #California coast, #neurodiversity, and #inclusive systems. Oh, and #parenting my three brilliantly unique kids (the hardest work I’ve ever done) and really bad puns.

My life’s work is building Oolie, our family business and Certified #BCorp helping families sleep better with #organic bedding and baby products. I hope you’ll check us out: https://oolie.com/signup

In my former career, I was into online learning, creative coding, and data visualization, even publishing a couple of books. I still love that stuff (#DataVis #Processing #p5js #d3js #JavaScript), but that feels like 1M years ago.

Expect to see posts about everything mentioned above!

Big thanks to the SFBA @moderators for having me.
