i haven't spent *that* much time scrutinizing AI assisted writing but i'm working w/ enough people using it now that i see the communication patterns
when i see it, it makes me angry and unable to engage
similar feelings when i used to read stuff in corporate speak, before AI speak replaced that
my question is, is this a me problem?? i feel like it is similar to "living under capitalism", I need to find some internal way to not get mad all the time
but it's annoying to have to do that work!
Does anyone know the status of Xena, the #digipres tool developed by National Archives of Australia? It seems pretty clear that it is no longer in development since ~2018 and won't run on most machines. I guess I'm curious what NAA uses now, or how/why they stopped supporting Xena?

My latest publication is How to #Publish Your Academic Paper (Without Publishers, Bosses, Gods or Masters!) 📚
Published by #Library Futures through a Research Network award, it's a guidebook on how to coordinate groups of volunteers to create knowledge together.
I synthesized what I learned over 10 yrs+ collectively researching, writing, and publishing on #digipres topics.

I want to do a project that is sort of revival of FCoP but specifically focused on preserving #software written 2000-2020.
FCoP: https://www.softwarepreservationnetwork.org/fcop/
I want to help create pre-AI hype software #archives so we can turn back to it when the bubble bursts.
I considered a JustTech fellowship to work on this but had too much going on during their app process this year to apply.
If anyone has a lead on who might fund this work, reach out 🙂
journalists, I am BEGGING you to interview archivists from places other than the Internet Archive. The IA is cool, we all love it, but the perspective of IA is not representative, they are really an outlier in the #archives world.
++ The IA is just one institution doing #webarchiving among many.
The NDSA has tracked web archiving activities since 2011 and is a great place to find more #archivist experts on this topic.
Some great folks are named here: https://www.ndsa.org/2026/06/03/it's-here-the-2026-ndsa-web-archiving-survey.html
Maybe it's just my feeds but i see a lot of evangelizing both tools for neurodivergent people. What does that mean? What do the broad swath of neurodivergent people all need in a notetaking/ second brain app? notion is not great for this particular neurodivergent brain
I often see people evangelizing notion (perhaps partially bc they have an ambassador program), but i find it very difficult to use as an amateur user.
I'm a constant obsidian user and have been led to believe the two applications are similar. But my experience in notion is very different...the bases have a terrible UI tough for me to operate and there's no file tree to show me where i am. It's super clunky overall IME.
Nonstandard #McDonald's made a documentary, and they interviewed me for it 😁

Max Krieger was really nice to work with. I am fangirling a bit because I am in a piece of media with *kate wagner* 🤩

Out now! Archivist Actions, Abolitionist Futures, published by CLIR. https://www.clir.org/2025/01/clir-releases-new-report-in-pocket-burgundy-series-archivist-actions-abolitionist-futures-reimagining-archival-practice-against-incarceration/
You may be surprised to find out how present the carceral state is in cultural heritage work. Caring people all across the US are working to reject this system as a norm. By centering people and building communities of practice and support, we can identify where the carceral state shows up and take action to dismantle it. The essay authors describe experiences doing this hard work. #archives #abolition
I'm excited to share that today, the Public Archives Resiliency Act was introduced in the US Senate! The legislation supports increased appropriations to IMLS and NHPRC to fund climate resiliency efforts of archives and archivists, including increased staffing and no cost share requirements. It was inspired by @TeamMidwest 's A Green New Deal for Archives. Markey's staff worked with Eira, me, and many other stakeholders to draft the legislation.🤝 https://www.markey.senate.gov/news/press-releases/sens-markey-hirono-and-rep-adams-introduce-legislation-to-promote-conservation-and-preservation-of-government-and-historic-records #archives #ClimateChange
if you're wondering why someone might have it out for #unitedhealthcare, here is a source on what they've been up to: "The reason you can't buy a car is the same reason that your health insurer let hackers dox you" https://pluralistic.net/2024/06/28/dealer-management-software/ by @pluralistic
My foster kittens Speed and Cap'n Spazz are up for adoption 🥲 https://www.petfinder.com/cat/speed-and-capn-spazz-73973996/ma/melrose/melrose-humane-society-ma393/
I currently do this through a complicated system of task dependencies in my task manager, but I think transferring this info to a suspense file is going to be sooo much better! #ProjectManagement (2/2)
This @pluralistic post about keeping a suspense file - a term and concept new to me - expresses one of the most important things I've learned in my career and organizing. People need to be reminded of what they said they would do with you, and if you don't help them remember, inefficiency and uncomfortable feelings/situations will arise. It's an art to keep up with others' commitments and kindly hold them accountable, and Cory has shared a great way to do it. https://pluralistic.net/2024/10/26/one-weird-trick/#todo (1/2)
As our national politicians in the USA continue to abandon our interests and the planet, we must focus locally to transform our immediate surroundings into what we need to survive and thrive. Here's the story of how we're doing it in #MedfordMA! Step by step, you too can build a movement to transform your local government. #MAPoli @_convergencemag
As two of my closest loved ones had major surgeries this week, i keep re-reading this @pluralistic blog on upcoding: https://pluralistic.net/2024/06/13/a-punch-in-the-guts/
1. Are there any resources on how to review your bill for upcoding? The blog has helpful nuggets on this but i want more!
2. 🤯 at the realization that an insurance company IS a bargaining unit for people bought into that system. They should obviously still be replaced with M4A, but i'd never thought of insurers as bargaining representation.
There were at least 3 info professionals in attendance. we will be a big part of fixing what sucks about the internet and monopsony platforms + increasing union power in the coming years ✊️
I've had a tough week. But here's something that lifted my spirits: Attended Adam Conover's book club on Chokepoint Capitalism (with @pluralistic !). I mentioned I'm an archivist, part of the creative class that experiences the vocational awe CC talks about, during intros. Adam commented, librarians are so important thanks for your work and several people in the chat said things like "librarians are my heroes! Thank u" & it felt so validating and hopeful to be seen outside the profession ❤️
