I'm grateful for the fact that my server doesn't know anything about the Cheesecake Factory, but also feeling slightly deflated bc I bet there are some good jokes and memes out there that I'm missing.
I need help from the electronic music hive mind!
What are the electronic instruments you've played over the years that are DEAD SIMPLE to use? Meaning, a person with no experience could walk up to it and quickly and intuitively move some knobs around, poke around a bit, and start exploring the instrument?
Samplers, synths, drum machines, and recording tech suggestions are all welcome. Boost if your followers would know about this pleeease! <3
Never again.
After years of investigation, I can confidently report that Ultravox sucks.
I will not be taking questions at this time.
This video is a hilarious and smart take on a super annoying tiktok trend.
Favorite line: "It's actually highly reductive and plays right into the hands of social conservatism and gender essentialism." BOOM.

Okay, you can't make a statement about a thump-god drum machine unless you show your work. Here's the beat I made on the S2400 today and yesterday, with some Wurli noodling.
I don't consider this a finished piece of music by any stretch, or even really a performance, but my friends, that humblebrag doesn't do it justice, because it THUMPS. I love the S2400 so much.
Also, it's been fun working on beats again after my ambient-only stint.
I've been using the MPC Live III a lot for awhile, and I just switched over to the Isla Instruments S2400 for a different project I'm working on. DAMN, the sonic difference is not subtle.
The MPC sounds like a computer: clean, exactly like the source material, generally fine. You can make great-sounding things on it.
The S2400 sounds like a thump-god in a box. Even if you're not making any thumping noises, thump-god still thumps.
Okay, this☝️album is going in my collection for sure. I'm on track 4 and there's no way I'm doing anything else until I listen to the whole thing. Absolutely carrying the Talib/Mos Def vibe into the present.
I'm listening in my studio and the production is immaculate, with plenty of space and punch, which really matters to me w/ this kind of music.
(And yeah, she's also almost as old as I am.)
Just popping through a new album by Rapsody: God Gotta Afro & Gold Hoops. It sounds GOOD and feels GOOD. Can't wait to listen to this whole album.
So I guess the ladies are carrying this torch? That's cool.

Goddamnit she is my age, 45. So not exactly young. Oh well, still excited to travel through her catalogue.
yeah SA-ROC is giving me bass face. Currently listening to Gold Leaf. Fucking awesome.
Okay I'm finding a few entrypoints by searching around. Just checking out SA-ROC and Armand Hammer for the first time, both are really cool.
SA-ROC seems like a badass MC so far. I'm geeked that she has so much music I can check out.
(I have zero idea how popular these people are or if everyone knows them bc I have no way of knowing that. But I currently have a streaming subscription for the first time in ages, so I'm popping around checking out stuff.)
So who is young and making smart ("conscious") hip-hop right now? Like, who is the modern equivalent of Talib Kweli, Mos Def, and that crowd? (If that's even a reasonable question)
Oddly, the only other example of this I can think of off the top of my head is the screaming music in the movie Election, also starring Matthew Broderick. Not quite the same, but in the ballpark.
Good stuff.
(My embed client doesn't play from the proper spot, but if you click, through to YouTube it does, and it's at 3:54. Although this whole scene is so good.)
I would like to take this opportunity to share my appreciation for a specific bit of the score in Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
When Charlie Sheen and Jeanie are saying good-bye, the score becomes a realistic doo-wop song that reacts to the script in real time. "My name is Jean, but...some guys call me Shauna."
"Shauna...Shauna...Shaaaaunaa Jeeeeaaaan..."
This level of self-awareness in a score is absolutely unheard of and one of my favorite moments in all movie music.
Hi fiber people! My mom saw a cool idea on a fiber arts newsletter and would like to pursue it with a friend, but the only place the newsletter linked to was Instagram, and my mom won't use Instagram.
So I'm asking here on her behalf: does anyone have any links where she could see examples/stories of people making Little Free Fiber Libraries? (Like Little Free Libraries, but for fiber arts.)
Links/personal experience/boosts appreciated!
Lighters up everyone. Here comes the flood.
(Maybe now I can get some work done.)
Okay, I know it's like 50 years old but spoiler alert there is VAUDEVILLE in PG's first album. :ablobcatattention:
