@mhoye Over the last year the feeling has evolved from King Canute standing on the shore and commanding the tide to recede, to King Canute standing on the shore and getting physically annihilated by a Tsunami traveling at Mach 2

@glyph We were told that capitalism contained the seeds of its own destruction, but we weren't told that we'd be charged for watching it happen like it's pay per view.

@mhoye The thing that is blowing my mind is that a bunch of human engineers looked at this blog post and thought "heck yeah! awesome! can't wait to announce this!"

I don't know how to bridge that values gap. or indeed how to start explaining it? it feels so hard to even begin this conversation.

@mhoye Like I am doing my absolute best on my blog but it does _not_ feel like it is working

@petrillic @mhoye Either this works exactly as they describe it, which is horrifying, or it fails in the ways that now seem predictable based on all the other "agent-scale" failures in the industry, which is … equally horrifying. I do not want to be overconfident in my assessment of the facts but I also don't see a hopeful path out of this.

@mhoye well isn't *that* the buttsauce on the poop parfait?

Begs the question though... If you've delegated the creation of source code to The Machine why bother with source code management at all? Considering the erm...quality...of what #Anthropic has generated they seem to treat source code as disposable garbage anyways. Why don't they just squirrel away any build and release snapshots that look interesting and tell their agents "just keep track of it yourself"?

@msh @mhoye did you see this thing when it first appeared? It’s a vcs that tracks prompt changes, but treats the actual code like a build artefact so it can be regenerated in a clean build 🤠

Looks dead now, like most vibe coded things. Never worked out if it were sincere or a performance art piece.
