    @Remittancegirl Stupid AND GREEDY. Don't forget the greedy, for both Trump and Musk.

    Also: Musk is so rich that he won't even feel the loss of all that money. So I'm with you: That doesn't make me feel better.

    @nandor But what does greed get you? Wealth. And what does wealth get you? Adoration.

    What could get you more adoration? Using your wealth for good.

    @Remittancegirl The problem is that those hundreds of millions were small change to him and he won't lose a night's sleep over them

    @Remittancegirl Even if he didn't know how to do a single big thing, he could just go on something like GoFundMe and sort out thousands of people's immediate problems with virtually no effort. Vet bills. Rent. A party for a kid who's never had one. A holiday for someone who's a fulltime carer. Things that could make a vast difference to them, and he'd probably have made the money again before he'd finished clicking on the buttons for the transactions.

    But, of course, he wants to do big things, because it's not about being a decent person, it's about being seen to be the biggest.

    @Remittancegirl I'm not sure he wants to be loved. Rather, I think he believes his wealth entitles him to respect he didn't earn. He also wants to protect his government contracts and avoid paying any taxes on his wealth.

    @Remittancegirl

    That would involve spending his money on things that don't hurt people.

    The billionaires have shown that they only know how to cause harm, and that causing harm to others is the only balm to their shattered self-worth which they've found at all helpful.

    @Remittancegirl
    > desperate to be loved

    I think this is a projection. They have no need for the love, what they need is perception of being in control. A feeling – yes. Higher emotion – no.

    Sorry to interrupt, but I’m fed up with the ‘longing for love’ trope. It is attributing traits to psychopaths that they don’t actually possess. An assumption that a psychopath experiences emotions in the same way as a normal person does makes many, way too many, people vulnerable and helpless when they face a psychopath.
