I love it when the clocks go back. I go from waking at 5.30am every day to waking at 4.30am every day. Really helps hammer home the winter misery.

Welp

Everything is now better by one and has acquired a semi-pleasing symmetry

Our really great neighbours of 14 years are moving a 5-hour drive away on Monday. So we're having one final Sunday roast together this weekend. It's a bit sad, really.

Oh yeah, and I should just like to add, in this age of suspicious 12K PRs arriving in half a day, I deleted all this stuff by myself in an artisanal way by using the backspace key a metric fucktonne of times

JUST GOING TO THE TIP, LOVE

having used llms before for work, i have first hand experience of the effects they have on your mind, especially if you use them for creation (like writing code)

they're addictive gambling machines, even if you know they are. they can't be used responsibly. after stopping with their use for work, i noticed myself reaching for them. it took me months to fully recover. there was also very noticeable skill atrophy

i knew of the many issues, but these things work on your monkey brain, they're very hazardous

if you use them and you're not forced to use them, stop using them. they are not worth it in any way. if you can't stop using them for work, try to avoid them outside of work as much as possible. harm reduction is a valid strategy

this technology needs to be eliminated, there is no way to salvage it

and this is me focusing on the psychological issues, there are way more severe social and ethical issues with it

Should I go down to Synthfest in Sheffield tomorrow?

SCENES!

On a Teams call at work being run by a senior manager. We’re talking *senior* manager - second in command to the CEO.

And three times, *three* times, so far, she has referred to a magnificent new knowledge “suppository” that has been created to aid my department.

I am not, I repeat, not, making this up.

Bluesky be all like:

Me: makes anti-AI joke
Senior AI-only dev: follows me

I'm playing records on the internet again.

Way ahead of you

They should invent a year that's good

Once again, with feeling: I will believe AI exists when phone and tablet keyboard autocomplete knows how to handle hyphenated words

@inpc

I am reminded again how in 1935, the US Congress passed a tax law that created a new top tax bracket of nearly 80%.

That tax bracket contained exactly one person, John D. Rockefeller, and was designed to stop him from causing so much trouble.

In case anyone needs the precedent.

Government websites being taken down as a precaution across Europe! What a win for GOV.UK and Ruby! 😍

Perfect score no notes

Of course, I didn't type all this out and count it. No. I went to do it in Ruby, but then realised I'd forgotten how and made an LLM tell me how to do `'0' * 114 + '4'`. So the joke is now pasted here but also I accidentally compromised all of AWS us-east
