“Sir, the Klingon captain reports that he is unable to access our Google Meet link and suggests we try Teams” – a line never uttered in Star Trek, amazingly

The video call interoperability with every other ship from every other civilisation in the galaxy is also pretty impressive

Well I hope everyone’s very proud of themselves.

Given we probably need to get used to our phones screaming at us periodically to warn us of the latest horrifying consequence of the climate crisis, it was good to start with a relatively gentle one (“don’t set stuff on fire”) to get our eye in

Plus a bonus "gender-questioning children" thrown in for good measure – though the transphobes aren't going to like the reference to "sex recorded at birth". Let's see if the BBC changes that wording to the transphobes' (and now the NHS's!) preferred "observed".

Normal service has been resumed by the BBC, with this story framed almost entirely from the perspective of the Bayswater Group, and not a single pro-trans organisation quoted. And they know EXACTLY what they're doing with the "recruiting children" phrasing of the headline. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c0jl4np49w1o

Of course, the fact the quotation marks were omitted in the first place remains sadly revealing

Well I’ll go to the foot of my stairs. I complained to the BBC about this, expecting the usual batting-away-of-criticism, and they’ve actually corrected the report

I know I'm pissing in the wind here, but I decided to complain to the BBC about this one. It's such a small and specific point that, if they bat this one away, it really will give away what they're up to. Easier for them to wave away complaints about entire transphobic stories, where they can just argue this was an "editorial news judgment"

So why does “age appropriateness” get scare-quotes while “trans ideology” is just treated as a straightforward, neutral term, BBC News? (Rhetorical question, I know the answer: BBC News has baked transphobia into its editorial policies.) https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/crele3x9e8vo

I mean it's all fine and lovely and I'm enjoying the (preposterous but sweet) story and the solidly 🌶️🌶️🌶️ spicy scenes, but it does rather unsuspend your disbelief when a character searches for something on 1979 Google (JOKE, hasn't actually happened. Yet.)

Bracing myself for someone pulling out a flip phone at this rate. Though I think what's *actually* going to happen is everyone is going to be super-chill and OK with an openly sapphic pair of mainstream rock singers going public about their relationship. In 1979.

Reading a sapphic romance set, supposedly, in 1979, and so far we've had a reference to a rock band member sleeping with "supermodels" and a character asking a photographer to "delete" a photograph they didn't like, which isn't feeling *terribly* 1979 tbqhwy

If you're looking for a Pride resolution for this month – are those a thing? should they be? – then I offer up this from Ms Ezra Furman: "come out more"

The Hay Festival has intentionally relabelled its (fully-enclosed single unit) gender-neutral toilets as men’s or women’s only. There is one ungendered toilet on the entire site – which doubles as the only accessible toilet, too. On the entire site.

Amazon had a Kindle version of Magnifica Humanitas for sale yesterday which also included a “scholarly analysis” of the encyclical and its place in the overall trajectory of Catholic social teaching. Yes: someone is selling a ChatGPT slop analysis of the Pope’s critique of “AI”. Because of *course* they are
