Anyway, today is a good day to learn how to do more gardening, or save seed, or make dirt, or fight cops, or really learning to do anything except the stuff we already know, because what we already know clearly isn't cutting it.

When I was at Bear Butte 3 years back I said that in 3 years those pine trees on this hill would be dead.

You can't see at this distance, from this photo - pine trees leaves turn brown LAST, after the tree has been dead a couple years - but these trees, almost all of them are dead.

Y'all thought the dust bowl was bad *before*, y'all aren't ready for what happens when there's no grass *and* no water.

This photograph my cousin sent from Bear Butte, where they're doing ceremony, is breaking my heart.

The hill is meant to be green, and what you're looking at in the foreground is meant to be a *lake*.

My family have swum in that lake for so long.

Like, for at 8,000 to 12,000 years, and that's just how long white folk will agree we've lived here, and they tend to refuse anyone lived anywhere for more than a couple centuries, y'know?

And now instead folk are just, dry, dusty, and pissed.

Another thing that was in the crooked shack (the one with the useful beams) was this pile of dried bundles of reeds.

No idea what these were collected for here. Don't think I've seen many thatched roofs around. No, I don't want to build one either.

What to do with this? Someone spent a lot of effort gathering and bundling them.

There's a Spanish football game on the TV here and instead of walking on the pitch with children, the players walked on the pitch with *puppies*.

Football ⚽ was suddenly my favourite sport until the puppies went away and I stopped watching.

Fall is pretty!...

....short.

It might snow tonight.

@CiaraNi
How about Pomo in Trondheim?

@larstransportworld this reminds me of a sort of reverse system I saw in Johannesburg where there are hand gestures for different parts of the city. People by the side of the road use them to indicate to minibus taxis where they want to go.

I knew that the GVB uses square colour figures for its tram lines. But did you know that each bus line in #Tübingen has its own symbol? I didn't. This is intended to help people with reading difficulties. The entire list: https://www.tuebus.de/fahrgastinformationen/barrierefreier-tuebus/uebersicht-der-symbole.html

Appendix: As some pointed out, the same seems to be true of Reutlingen. They introduced it even earlier.

One of my colleagues made this comparison and now I want to see Richard Scarry's Boschytown.

@owiecc @CiaraNi I have a friend who is currently in the middle of a co-housing build, with some shared facilities and inequitable access to rooftop sunshine around the site, so they're using 2 of these units to share the solar power around all 20 of the houses on site.

@CiaraNi One take and I was lucky - not necessarily my favorite stairs, because there is too much poignancy to the whole building, but striking in its appearance nonetheless.

Main stairs at the Stasi headquarters in Berlin.

@CiaraNi And yes, current favorite staircase: back staircase in the Postsparkasse building in Vienna. I had to be a bit sneaky to take my photo.

When I grew up, I learned about this faraway country called Scotland, as part of learning about various countries in the world. You know how it is when you're a kid, and you learn one or two facts about each place?

I learned about Scotland:

1. It rains all the time there. Constantly. Even more than in the Drakensberg mountains. Even more than in Wemmershoek.

2. In Scotland, people eat sandwiches with a knife and fork.
