Meanwhile, Larry Ellison and his pals have locked out of TikTok the account promoting the new, scathing documentary about Elon Musk.
Big (Tech) Media is on a censorship rampage aimed to shut down the critics of the escalating right-wing extremism.

Happy 6 year (and 1 day) anniversary to one of the most unhinged posts I’ve ever made: the HTML5 accelerator card
Watching people losing their shit over AI videos of flying cars explains a lot about the state of the US.
And keep in mind that even if it did exist, it would never be approved for mass production because no city, state, or whatever will allow cars falling out of the sky, which is exactly what would happen.
So apparently all the coordination, planning and communications for organising No Kings events on Instagram have disappeared and the account admins have been suspended.
So... here's the thing:
DON'T PLAN YOUR REVOLUTION ON THE KING'S BLACKBOARD.
The fact that organisers are depending on the availability of a platform run by any of the tech bros... well, it makes me think you aren't a terribly effective opposition.
Good old Amazon AI-summarised user reviews:
"Customers find the product works perfectly every time and produces great results. However, the product's durability is concerning as it has exploded multiple times, and customers describe it as absolute rubbish."
Fantastic. 🦬

I sincerely don't know what I'm going to do when Windows 10 extended support ends. I can't bear the thought of having a malicious trickster spirit be the basis of running my PC
#PennedPossibilities 1158. MC POV: Where is a place you never want to go, see, or visit again?

Jum and Tabitha (in unison): "The Permanence. I mean, *fuck* those guys, right?"

Absolutely this. I had an infusion reaction once, and the feeling of impending doom at the beginning is totally real. I’ve never experienced anything like it.
@cstross A planet with unusually high niobium content may be a second generation planet formed from stellar ejecta as the star dies.
I don't think this type of planet has a catchy name yet.

@cstross In the future we’ll livestream the final mental states of the executed directly into the brains of the potentially disobedient citizens (selected by a social credit score algorithm) to teach them to honor their leaders with appropriate enthusiasm
@BrianJopek and wait till you hear the German sayings for this comment!!!😹
One is like: “did you have a trampoline in the garage as a kid?”

None of these are a patch on the one that went round social media the other week: "your dad shouts at hotels and your mum comes from Piddington". (Which implies hereditary idiocy very strongly, if you're a Brit in 2026 …)
A JOKE:
Rudy Giuliani, Anthony Scaramucci and Katie Zacharia all walk into a pub together because it's impossible for any of them to pass the bar
BOMBSHELL: Bolsonaro's campaign paid a US company to manipulate the Brazilian elections, spreading disinformation, with fake accounts online, and using "psychological warfare techniques." — Intercept.

While I appreciate the sentiment, this is fundamentally stupid; it's hyper-specific, livestreaming wasn't a thing two decades ago and will be replaced by something else before long, and it consumes legislative time that could be better spent on, I dunno, abolishing capital punishment completely, perhaps?
#WritersCoffeeClub 17th Oct ~ What are the defining traits of your niche in your genre?
I try to occupy several niches simultaneously! But what my SF/F has in common is, it proposes certain changes to how the universe works, asks "what are the second-order consequences?" then bounces the characters off them to see what happens next. Usually 2-5 significant changes per setting, too, not just one thing.
Shorter version: exploring ideas and their consequences.
