Identity theft is more prevalent today than it was a decade ago. Troves of data breaches and immature identity verification processes allow criminals to scoop up people’s information and cause them undue harm…

I fell victim to a VRBO (an Expedia company) scam back in ‘21. It happened in Berkeley, California. When I rented the VBRO the host seemed legitimate. Unfortunately when we returned to the property from an event, we discovered the criminals had stolen all of our group’s belongings and the host’s things were intact.

These companies need to be held at a much higher standard. SSN and birthdays are some of the many identifiers that are available in data breaches.

California, who I thought was evangelizing digital privacy rights in #USA, just passed a law banning social media for children under the age of 16.

The #CCPA is a refreshing piece of legislation that models the pillars of GDPR for Americans. As the birthplace of Silicon Valley, it made sense that Californians understood the criticality of protecting our consumers, and would set a progressive precedent for protecting digital rights.

Instead, #California decided to ban young minds from freely expressing themselves or engaging in supportive communities. Now #BigTech has the legal authority to collect even *more* data on them so they can evade infractions.
