The Deputy Director of Ukrainian "Kyivvodokanal," Serhiy Horkutsenko, tells what will need to be done. According to him, the water supply system is completely dependent on electricity: when there are power outages, the pumps stop working, and the water disappears from the taps. The biggest threat is during the winter: if blackouts last for 20 hours a day at below-freezing temperatures, the internal plumbing networks will inevitably freeze, leading to a major collapse.
