There's one web app and only one that I would like slop copy if it was gone: Google Keep :-)

No other note taking app has ever worked for me.

I find e.g., HackMD, StandardNotes and similar tools less convenient than vim and a cloud drive. Not understanding them. Keep has the perfect UX :-)

This is suspicious. I put all capslock "don't you dare cancel my NAS drive order Amazon" message and I get no answer. Few days and no answer. And ETA is gone from my order. That has caused this life and death situation.

This is a program of which I made first version with Python in 2011 but since it has been rewritten with C++:

bunx @jarkkojs/phindex --help
Usage: phindex [options] <source>... <dest>
       phindex --discover
-h, --help Show this help message
-V, --version Show the program version
      --discover List available source URIs
-L, --dereference Follow symbolic links into directories
-n, --dry-run Show what would be copied; do not write
-r, --recursive Recurse into source subdirectories
-v, --verbose Print copied paths and skip reasons

phindex copies photos from various sources and normalizes their naming convention and copies them to the destination directory.

To get a list of iOS device URIs, which can be used as source directories, and archive photos the destination directory:

bunx @jarkkojs/phindex --discover
bunx @jarkkojs/phindex --recursive ios://<path> <destination>

It does the job for me, or has done so far…

Landstrip releases start to be gradually more mature: https://github.com/landstrip/landstrip/releases/tag/0.19.14

In the next release I might change from static musl binary to AppImage because it is just way more robust and I'm doing that already for ReadSeek: https://gitlab.com/jarkkojs/readseek/-/releases/0.10.7

Apple's silicon is not comparable to NVIDIA's iron scrap, which is like smartphone with over the top amount of RAM. As hardware platform Apple's silicon is really solid design especially for inference type of workloads. It's sad story too tho because the hardware cannot be fully utilized for what it is good at thanks to macOS.

DGX Spark would be factors better hardware if it had wake-on-lan. Can't get over that NVIDIA has not implemented it. I guess that explains partly why I have a tendency write bad things about this hardware. It is what is tho i.e., ridiculously expensive and incredibly slow box ;-)

I think I have now a philosophy to navigate with AI assisted patches at least month or two.

Nothing special. I just described same things as here verbosely and people seem to get that so it isn't that hard after all :-) Over the course of this year things have been gone a bit over the top from time to time, and you end up tripping out for a while.

It's a great time to be alive.

Someone did AI recomp of RB-338. The screenshot is from related FB post. No interest but you can now have it as a plugin (also for Apple silicon).

DGX Spark that my employer purchased for me has rised its price since at least 2000 EUR possibly even 3000 EUR (this was early Spring). I don't have the exact number. I will check this at some point.

And that with piece of shit hardware e.g., memory is LPDDR5x, which is slow memory. Or this would be piece of shit hardware if US economy was not purposely engineering a debt crisis. This is like shitty business laptop level hardware with nothing fancy in it. It's the story that makes it "AI hardware".

And NVIDIA compute at data centers is not due to technical superiority. They have similar ecosystem tie for compute as Intel had in the past for data centers overall.

Amazon no longer shows any ETA in my NAS order. It's active tho :-) It used to have ETA for 15th of this month i.e. for next Thursday.

The order was place in March. This sucks, and Amazon even more so.

I actually HAVE TO rise almost a rage now to their customer service because it is not hard to foresee that if I don't do it, the order will be silently canceled at some point. Although the money will be also returned, I don't want to repurchase with prices of today.

retooted Rob
My ArcaOS machine got an upgrade, a 1080p wide-screen display.
And with Dooble, I can load OS/2 World as long as I don't resize the window.

I don't need process changes in order to ask a question.

I can just start asking about the "human part" when I get AI assisted kernel patch so that I at least know how deeply I should investigate the patch.

I think overall Rust is the best choice for Landstrip and no plans to change that. I'm not a Rust fan and have my issues with it but for this project the ecosystem benefits weight more than my personal preferences ;-) I posted one that I was reconsidering this choice but that was not a great take. I had a bad Rust day ;-)

I got one idea for dealing with AI kernel patches. It's not full all encompassing solution but would at least improve the situation.

If contributors were required to explain either in the cover letter or alternatively before diffstate (after "---") how they used AI assistance while writing the kernel patc, the barrier for any possible misconduct would grow.

This would also reduce mass spamming of LLM generated unchecked patches.

For maintainers this should be opt-in but recommended when possible.

One more LLM rant (and I don't claim to have answers to any of these).

I'm not sure what value LWN contributor charts serve in the post-LLM world (except tested-by and reviewed-by).
