@steveriggins I always assume this to be par for the course for games and game launchers. Listen, to a certain extent I’m grateful that we have them at all on the Mac

@steveriggins This worked fine in a previous OS. Expecting constant developer churn, especially from game devs, is incredibly frustrating. We’re going to have another game apocalypse next year when Rosetta stops working.

@stevex I understand, and I also know that Blizzard puts very few people on Mac wow which is why any gaming I do on my Mac is tertiary, like fishing while on a couch or maybe while away a weekend.

I gave up on general Mac gaming 15 years ago. It’s been so much nicer to just have most stuff work on Windows simply because that is where 99.9% of the effort is.

@steveriggins It’s frustrating because it doesn’t have to be that way. Like not including hand controllers with the Vision Pro, or not including a gaming controller with the Apple TV, it feels like they have this intentional self-sabotage when it comes to gaming.

@stevex Windows has people like Nvidia pushing out fixes for specific games very week. Apple didn’t have that when they used Nvidia chips and they sure don’t now. I think Apple is happy with the bottom of the barrel scam game market of coins and crap and just will never invest in a dedicated gaming team. Hell they don’t keep large teams around for their own software. As long as Apple is more closed off, it just won’t happen.

@steveriggins @stevex Apple has no staying power for gaming. Every so often they invest in something (some tech, some courting developers, whatever), but it never sticks. Their interest wanders, and teams get reassigned, and they’re back to ignoring gaming again. It’s no wonder that no third party studio would trust them.

@amyworrall @stevex not to mention that Jobs hated nvidia. My laptop shot fire when my laptop burst a capacitor playing WoW. I learned how you instantly get to Apple tier 4 support haha.

The Apple Store manager basically called me a liar and accused me of wanting a new laptop. He later apologized after seeing the burn marks on the motherboard.

@amyworrall @steveriggins Totally. There was so much support in Xcode for SceneKit and GameplayKit, that almost nobody has even seen. Apple Godot support for the Vision Pro. Unity plugins. Odd little bursts of interest in gaming that just don’t last.

@amyworrall @steveriggins @stevex have they ever made a serious move? We’ve seen many things announced and a yearly demo by some studio of a game coming to Apple platforms that will signal this is the year of the Linux desktop - sorry I mean gaming on Apple platforms- but I haven’t seen an effort that truly starts a movement

@dimsumthinking @steveriggins @stevex There have been things that could have been the _start_ of a serious move, if they hadn’t lost interest. Game Porting Toolkit, for example. If they’d followed that up with courting studios, supporting devs, etc, it could have been something to build upon.
