I just built my first desktop app in Rust and Typscript. Sure it is very basic, just following a tutorial, but I still had a real sense of satisfaction when the window actually loaded. I come from decades old experience with HTML/CSS/JS, and have wanted to learn new languages for the last few years, but my life and the world has been too shit to put the time and focus in.
I had planned to build a new personal website with React and Typscript for while, learning those, but I have also been curious about developing desktop apps since shifting to Linux and opensource a few years ago.
Typscript has been recommended to me a few times, as something worthwhile to learn, and now that I know it can be used for the UI in Rust projects (using Tauri), it makes some sense to learn a few different things together that mix well. So, I'm going to be setting some time aside to learn both Rust and Typscript properly, for a couple of different projects, and learn anything else that I need to around those.
