Hey @flyingpenguin

Not enough infosec marketing & “awareness” people understand the political/lobbying origins of this month & why it’s never lived up to its promise. Read the names in this press release. They were quick to show up for a messaging brainstorm so they could 1) promote their own sh*t, or 2) pretend like a marketing campaign was the same thing as investing in consumer protections whenever they talked to regulators.

Once I made a typo in a search trying to find out why orthodox priests have beards. I found something way better instead.

STOP hyperventilating about AI doing something “at machine speed.” 😱

ALL SOFTWARE RUNS AT MACHINE SPEED. IT ALWAYS HAS. THAT’S WHAT AUTOMATION *IS*.

I got hauled into a data center today because Claude was used to spec it and screwed up badly. At least 2,500 GPUs were in an impossible upside down and backwards plan.

😱

I had to pause the call because I couldn't stop laughing. AI had sabotaged the AI datacenter spec for building more AI.

anywhose, there are all sorts of reasons why orgs run old software and it's not always stupidity or negligence. sometimes they also have constraints on being able to upgrade now (or ever). sending out sympathy and #HugOps to everyone on the front lines. this week has been... brutal...

Let’s give this a try, folks. Doing an AMA on Reddit (r/IamA) on Thursday at 11am ET.

Feel free to ask about craigslist, cybersecurity, supporting veterans and more. Pigeon questions also accepted.

Checking with my boyfriend to see which computer chaos news has broken containment of Mastodon. He hadn't heard of "4” but now has the impression that it has become 6/7 for computer folks.

Letting a CISO who hasn't been paying attention write up a crazy aspirational job requirement for a "Director of AI Security", whose job is basically being the real CISO under the CISO in this emerging era, isn't a real strategy.

You can and should hire experts for a security team. But looking at this write-up, being the "strategic leader" above this role is doing some real heavy lifting when this person is being hired to do all the actual heavy lifting.

The "everybody gets a job in security" era is over. Have the courage as a company to move on. The taxi to the farm upstate is running outside. They can go run and play with all the other "strategic security leaders" who think it's okay not to keep up in even the most superficial ways.
