I appreciate the friendly reminder today of how much of the internet still runs on PHP

I miss Sun Microsystems so much

A lot of people don't know but COSMIC gets so much done by utilizing the original AI

The policy can be seen as part of the revised PR template here: https://github.com/pop-os/cosmic-epoch/blob/master/.github/PULL_REQUEST_TEMPLATE.md.

There is an exception for cosmic-flatpak, where each project manages its own flatpak manifest, pointing to its own code. These manifests are reviewed by our team for the correct sandboxing prior to accepting changes.

COSMIC projects will no longer accept LLM-generated content in PRs.

There are various reasons, and I don't want to hurt anybody's feelings. The primary reason is simply our team's load for reviews. In particular, we would like to prioritize working on contributions from our own team and regular contributors, while we have been receiving far more changes from first-time contributors using LLMs. These changes are often unplanned and have had a low acceptance rate.

COSMIC Epoch 1.9.0 has been released: https://github.com/pop-os/cosmic-epoch/releases/tag/epoch-1.9.0

DHH says "The number of Linux distros and projects that have these batty Al policies is baffling. Like rejecting the railroad because you like to pet donkeys. Oh well, more tokens for Omarchy!"

Followed by a screenshot of Redox OS's AI policy which forbids LLM generated contributions.

If you hate DHH and vibe coding, come help Redox. Here he is throwing a temper tantrum over our no-AI policy:

COSMIC's on-screen keyboard (cosmic-osk) is landing some improvements soon:

- Design updates
- Floating mode
- Gamepad support and universal gamepad icons

Apparently there are heated arguments among OpenMandriva maintainers about whether to package COSMIC or GNOME and Davide Beatrici turned to crime to undo the packaging progress. It probably should not be, but it is hilarious to me.

It was DNS

After Gitlab's recent announcement I am strongly considering migrating Redox OS to Forgejo, a truly open source community maintained project.

I understand where Matthew is coming from, but I wholeheartedly disagree, and maintain that LLM contributions are generally undesired in all of my projects.

Free software, to me, is about the perpetual freedom of human knowledge developed over millennia (not hyperbole) codified in source code. This source code has been a human output for other humans to build on, and absolutely qualifies as equal parts form and function, art and math, beauty and purpose. Throwing machines into the mix has always been possible, but I feel they have not created beauty in any meaningful sense. On the other hand, I have often been awestruck by the code of other people.

I am in the incredibly privileged position to say no to LLM use in my projects. I have heard from many people who are being forced to use LLMs for their programming jobs regardless if they want to or if they are well suited to the task.

SAG-AFTRA and WGA were able to fight this for other disciplines, it is quite a coincidence (ironic?) that software developers are both responsible for and suffering from widespread LLM deployment

LLM slop is just one part of the broader systemd/Linux sloperating system.

IF I WANTED CLAUDE TO CHANGE MY CODE I WOULD ASK IT MYSELF, I DON'T NEED SOMEONE WHO KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT THE PROJECT TO ASK CLAUDE TO MAKE CHANGES THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND

These are my personal opinions about the operating system age bracket law passed in California (and coming to Colorado): https://www.reddit.com/r/pop_os/comments/1rfqyf8/comment/o7q34wu/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Parents should parent their children, not websites, not operating systems, and not idiot politicians writing idiot age verification laws
