is it horrible if I just start posting this link as a reply to every "it's only a matter of time before AI's can ..." post that I see

I've written up a more reader-friendly version of my case against the prediction of future AGI Singularity. It's got interactive graphs! Boosts appreciated if you like it.

reminder to all the people who are reluctantly trying out LLMs for coding or other tasks and then frustrated-surprised when it does a good job:

a) of course it does a good job, it's repurposing and adapting massive amounts of stolen code and human creativity;
b) it will do a good job until it doesn't, and you won't know the difference unless you deeply understand what it's doing in the first place;
c) it is vastly inefficient and is only affordable now (if at all) because the techbro corps are still fighting for the monopoly they need so they can dominate the market and then crank up the costs tenfold;
d) the nature of these systems is mimicry plus a dash of crowd sourced feedback, and are mathematically unable to achieve any of the AGI superintelligence bullshit that the Corp CEOs are leading their cult followers to believe;
e) participating in this train wreck is making climate change more catastrophic, cut it the fuck out

let's see, how can I get myself #fedihire 'd

Hi! I'm an AuDHD programmer / math teacher / infosec researcher who is looking for an online job! I've done games coding, studied game design / balance, taught PICO-8 and Scratch, hobbied in Blender, contributed to Processing's IDE, earned a JPT1 cert from TryHackMe, and taught a whole lot of kids how to do some math and coding and digital media.

I'd love to get a start on pentesting or other offensive security research with an experienced team who would like a new voice. I learn quickly, I hyperfocus hard on tricky problems, and I have excellent written communication skills. (Yes, I'm willing to write up reports after a security assessment.) I value knowing how things work and helping others know as well.

I am capable of sounding professional, but honestly I'm not going to sound *too* professional right now because a lilttle bit of shitposting voice seems like the only way to ensure that people know you're actually writing down your human thoughts in your own human words these days.

anyway plz send me jobs to apply to or stuff! k thx

Oh, and I *also* have experience coding genAI models using PyTorch on the side, *and* understand them well enough to give a thorough explanation as to why the current AI hype bubble is not to be trusted, and I do not currently use LLM or genAI for anything other than seeing if it breaks in funny or security-exploitable ways.

So I was holding off on talking too much about it here until I told my students, but since the word's out there: I'm moving at the end of this school year, and thus need to find new work. I've been teaching math, digital media, and science at the middle-to-high school level for the last 15ish years, and before that I was a programmer working in game development with a computer engineering degree.

I'm ready for a change. I've been studying #infosec , completed PT1, currently working on OSCP+. I don't know exactly what I want, but I have a dream of being able to sit somewhere in/around nature, my laptop tethered to data, breaking ur networks and writing up helpful reports so you can fix them.

Want to hire a helpful new remote Penetration Tester on a part-time or trial basis? I'm up for small short-contract work soon, with some hours available around my day job for now and much more hours open come July.

I'm also applying (via normal routes) for teaching roles that might be temp / part time in the fall, so work that would continue to be irregular temporary contracts might fit just fine. Or on the unlikely case that you're wanting to hire a remote game programmer, I might also be your human!

Things I care about: honesty, diversity, not being a fascist, the value of learning and asking each other questions.

Prove that any LLM result is actually an improvement over a websearch result from five years ago. Spoiler: you can't.

git commit to the bit

Reminder to #Canada : support our country, but watch out for the fascists we have here who would gladly peddle their bigotry under a "patriotic" flag. Stand up for an *inclusive* Canada.

I was going to resign myself to waiting for the official Raspberry Pi edition of #picotron and settle for running #pico8 on this nifty new portable Pi-powered uConsole.

but then I found out that Box64 is a thing? that exists? and lets you run x64 compiled linux binaries on arm devices??? ::::::

happily running picotron on this thing now, wheeeeeeeeee
