Getting Mastodon running on AlmaLinux is a pain the goddamned ass, let me tell you.

I got base Mastodon on the new instance up and running. Now working on moving it to Glitch Edition.

Hello, I'm testing an accessibility attribute aria-hidden which should hide specific parts of a web page from screen readers.

If anyone who has access to screen reader software would check for me that it works as expected, I would be very grateful! I just want to make sure it works as expected before I would start using it on my website. I want to avoid making people's life worse by visiting my website. Thank you.

I love that these old 'Breadbox' joysticks are in Restory! I've got a couple of the real joysticks for my Commodore Plus/4.

(they're horrible to use!)

Okay, this is cool. Hetzner has an option for discount VPS service if you place it in Germany or Finland. So for the "cost" of a higher ping time (about 100ms more by my estimate) I get a better configuration at a lower monthly price and all the same features I have now.

Realistically, I doubt we'll even notice the higher ping.

Oh. This is very exciting!

Oh! - Walmart.com is listing the new Playmates Thunderzords & Tigerzord as in-stock but limited.

If you're remotely interested, check now!

Here's a great toy review of the White Tigerzord, comparing it to the original DX and the Bandai Legacy collector's release:

I'm talking with a journalist who has some deep questions about the #Mastodon codebase. Their questions are now well beyond my depth.
If you know the Mastodon codebase (specifically Mastodon, not other ActivityPub implementations) well and would like to go on the record with a journalist regarding technical details about the codebase, I could use help.
Update 2026-08-22: Journalist has talked to key Mastodon developers and myself both. No need to boost this further to find anyone to interview.

Okay, this Avengers Doomsday trailer was significantly better than the previous teaser.

Why the fuck did they lead with the previous one?

Incidentally, is anyone aware of a USB-C rechargable battery pack that replaces 8 D cell batteries in a 4x4 arrangement? 😅

GAH!

I decided I just really want a little CD/Cassette/Radio boombox again. As happy as I am to finally have a couple of turntables again, vinyl is a little more expensive than CDs. Plus I can totally buy an album on Bandcamp and then burn my own CD -- that's not so easy with vinyl.

Anyway.

Back in the early 90's, my Mamaw (who we lived with) had 2 boomboxes and I would borrow one, take it to our dining room, put on some headphones and sit there and play video games.

I have memories of playing Super Castlevania IV and Mega Man X while listening to Michael Jackson's Dangerous. (I'll never forget how real the intro to Black or White when the 'Dad' starts pounding on the door sounded.)

Only problem is, I couldn't quite remember what my Mamaw had. We didn't take a lot of photos and any albums my grandmother would have kept were probably tossed by my aunt after she died.

What I did remember was the Sony had a single cassette on the front with a soft release and it had the Mega Bass button, but no obvious "bass port". The CD drive was on the top, along with the cassette controls. The body was black, and had a generally "rounded rectangle" shape.

I flipped through pages of results on eBay last night and I can't tell you how happy I am to have stumbled on the Sony CFD-12. That's it -- that was 1 of my Mamaw's boomboxes!!

Now for the second boombox, I remember it wasn't a Sony. It was a similar shape and vintage though. I remember it had some form of equalizer on top instead of a bass boost. I also remembered the main body was gray, and it had a dual-cassette deck.

To my memory it would have been either a Panasonic or an RCA. I also remembered the CD drive being centered on top. This one was harder to find. Panasonic took me down a rabbit hole of "not quite but almost". But then I switched to RCA and found it in minutes! There's the 3 band equalizer right on top!

I found both models I remember my Mamaw having thirty years ago!

Because we saw some clouds that looked like train cars in sequence, then some jokes and some unprintable commentary about another driver and then "choo choo!" and some time later some unprintable activity and then "that's the caboose!"

The doctor who claimed that vaccines cause autism lost his medical license for faking for the study. But his lies and the damage he did to public health persist long after his paper was pulled. This is why science communication is so difficult; all it takes is one grifter.

Hell yeah, rank 4.

Wait! There's a first person mode switch in Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter for first person screenshotting. :D

I'm sad to say Joe at Game Sack is going to cover the Modretro M64 and got snippy when people tried to point out that they would prefer he not.

Game Sack is a channel I always look forward to watching new episodes the mornings they release. Have done for years. Disappointed doesn't cover it.

You know what's funny:

The powers that be tell us that "this wont' work" or "that won't work".

For example, socialism is a failure.

Cool. Then why do you keep attacking socialist countries and lying about them?

Or taxing the rich won't help the economy.

Cool. Have we tried it though? Let's test that theory!

What do we have to lose?
