Got to witness a car driver (on the phone while driving) almost kill a man on a bicycle and when he got mad she got all aggressive, and strangers got involved to help her out and protect her from the very scary man on a bicycle who she nearly murdered. Car drivers are indeed aggro.

When she wouldn’t let it go (let go of what she herself had done? Why is she mad?) and kept provoking him, he turned around and hit her car door with his bike. So then the driver and her spontaneous crew tried to steal his bike while calling 911… I am sure they will tell tales of the very scary bicyclist for years to come while forgetting all about the near killing of him followed by the harassment of him for being mad about it.

Particularly disappointing for Google, but I am also used to being disappointed by them now.

This year I decided to try levelling up my strength training. When I asked my skate coach what I should be doing between classes to become an elite skater, he said eat better including more protein, and get stronger at the gym six days a week.

I successfully went from zero to two days a week for the last six months, and can directly see the results on my skating skills, power, and other gameplay stuff. I started eating better after that conversation and some research into how. So now I decided it was time to try getting stronger more often.

I was listening to a podcast talking about what it takes to get to high level hockey, and in the middle of the conversation there was an implied mention about gym workouts everyday, and this was so baseline, so expected, no one had to comment on that or make it explicit. It was just understood. And they are clearly also practicing and playing games while doing that. So I realized I need to go for it, if I want to get to my goals.

After today, I made it through my first set of six days in a row. Going six days implies that it’s not gym OR hockey/etc anymore, it’s gym AND practices/games every time. Ngl it was a lot this week, I was tired, and it was challenging, but it wasn’t miserable either. I figure that I need to acclimate myself and make this my new normal, if I am capable of maintaining it. We will see.

Proud of myself for trying it, and for doing it for 10 days so far. Gonna be a serious powering up year for my game if I can do it.

Today was my last day working on the Chrome browser after more than a decade contributing to it. Over the last few years, it was a fun challenge to bring the Rust language into a huge open-source C++ project. I look forward to seeing the browser continue to get safer and faster through the use of Rust. It was also rewarding to be part of changing how C++ is used in the project, moving code to safer constructs like spans.

I am excited to be deepening my journey into compilers and languages, to help our industry write better software and write software better, by joining up with the #CarbonLang team.

A good hockey shift is 35 seconds and they want a jammer to push thru a wall of bodies and sprint for 2 minutes straight 😱 Who chose that time limit.
