Second appearance for #AphexTwin in this list. #PancakeLizard is from the #DonkeyRhubarb 12" which also features the excellent #IcctHedral #PhilipGlass remix. The Donkey Rhubarb e.p. is IMO underrated, it came at a time when I had almost given up on Aphex Twin because he was definitely taking the piss if you hadn't noticed.
Anyway, Pancake Lizard makes the list because it is achingly beautiful and sad and made me cry one day, probably back in the 90s.
I am trying out "20 Jazz Funk Greats" by Throbbing Gristle. I wish I was cool enough to not find Genesis P Orridge's voice so awful that I cannot listen to it. I think that the tunelessness and drab boredom affect is the point. They would no doubt find this interesting or even satisfying to hear, so I cannot win. I will stick to Chris and Cosey LPs instead I think. That said, Hot On The Heels Of Love is amazing especially for 1979 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8M1HVH6-g0
#Fripp and #Eno #EveningStar LP (1975)
My housemate had this on tape and I have misremembered pretty much every part of this release (apart from the fact Eno was on it). I thought it was Cluster and Eno. I thought it was a concept album about inert elements from the periodic table of elements so I am surprised I manged to track this down and share it.
This is pure bliss. The whole LP is great ambient business.
this one is quite obscure. At about 50 seconds into the final track ("Pluto, then re-entry to earth") from the #KLF 1990 ambient LP "Space", the strings from #EnnioMorricone's soundtrack to the movie #TheMission swell up from deep in space as our virtual space ship whizzes past. And my heart fills with wonder.
I don't know who the credit goes to - #JimmyCauty for making "Space" or Morricone for his soundtrack. But then that is post-modernism for you, isn't it?
#808State playing the LP “90” at the New Century Hall on Friday last week. Gig photos taken from the crowd never afford a good view of the band. This is no exception.
Angelo Badaliamenti - Laurens Walking. I’ve not seen the film for ages (it’s a bit exhausting tbh) but someone sent me a link to this recently and it reminded me of how easily I would cry when I heard this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miSBpNeefzA
I don't know what the solution to this is but #cycling should not make walking a dangerous thing to do in a pedestrian zone. https://www.theguardian.com/news/2024/oct/31/cycling-clampdowns-city-councils-danger
'Tama' by #TontosExpandingHeadBand. West Coast US modular synth electronic legends. The melody is achingly beautiful and crawls along with a tangible sadness to it. The "electronic wind" in the background makes it feel desolate too. It is no wonder I cried. Check out their 'Zero Time' LP from 1971. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gt3i271i3eA
