🚀 Funkwhale 2.0.12 is out! 🎉🐋
🔒 This release includes an important security fix that could allow users to gain admin privileges through OAuth apps. Please upgrade as soon as possible!
On the feature side, you can now share private content using sharing links!
Happy upgrading! 🐋
We could build a tool, like a block list of AI music. This list could have :
- domain names hosting agents (to block accounts using the domains for their email address) -> blocks local account creation
- list of ActivityPub actors managed by AI -> blocks all related activities
- list of musicbrainz id artists -> blocks metadata
Lately we get signup requests from AI agents. Not even real people creating AI music. We have been refusing them to sign-up on open.audio. We want to listen to music made by humans and support their work and artistic sensibility. With Funkwhale we want to support real musicians and we don't want support the waste of resources for AI generated slop. We wanted to be transparent about this and know what our users think. What is your opinion?
🚀 Funkwhale 2.0.10 is out! 🎉🐋

Artists can now add links to their other platforms. Links are also automatically fetched from #musicbrainz
Thanks to @nlnet we made a proposal to expand the RSS protocol. Seems like @musicbrainz schema (mmd) is the perfect candidate for this. It allows to send complex nested objects in rss.
This opens the #fediverse to any artist who wants to publish their content through rss rather than #activitypub. Subscribing to the rss feed in Funkwhale will create an activity pub actor for the artist and audio activities from the feed items !
Funkwhale 2 is released ! This brings a completely new user experience :)
Have a look at our blog post for the full list of features : https://blog.funkwhale.audio/funkwhale-200-release.html
Looking for interested developers to review an #RSS approach to handle music metadata for better #interoperability. Details can be found here https://dev.funkwhale.audio/funkwhale/funkwhale/-/issues/2428.
Working on Funkwhale upgrade for open.audio. Downtime is expected.
We closed registrations to our gitlab because we have a lot of bots registering. We will open then again when we found a reliable solution. In the meantime feel free to reach out on matrix if you want to open an account
Funkwhale 2 comes with User follow feature. A question arise, when I accept a follow request, do I want to share my music uploads automatically with my followers or not ? If not sharing uploads will only be possible though playlist sharing (until we implement sharing links). We could also create a new setting : `Share my uploads with my followers` defaulting to true ?
what do you think ?
Funkwhale 2 new audio privacy management system
Want to support the Funkwhale 2 stable release and the March to #Gaza movement at the same time?
Just make a donation to Funkwhale during the month of June!
Our volunteer developers will dedicate time to the release based on the amount donated. But instead of keeping the money, all funds will be redirected to support the people participating in the March to Gaza.
Free the music. Free Palestine.
Alpha candidate for Funkwhale 2 is out ! If you want to test the migration be prepared for some hacking session.
