Russian diesel won’t make the American corn harvest cheaper. It is like pissing into the ocean at this point. What it will do, though, is tell Putin that we don’t care about civilian deaths, systematic rape of a captured populace, torture, and hybrid warfare.

None of this is surprising, of course, because Donald Trump doesn’t read or understand anything, is incapable of critical thinking, and would do anything to feel like he’s part of the dictator club.

@mcnado The whole thing makes no sense. First they claim there’s a diesel shortage because Ukraine keeps blowing up Russian refineries, resulting in massive shortages in Russia. Now, suddenly Russia is flush with diesel to export? I’m betting the diesel is fictional.

Journalism just isn’t. All they do is print press releases and never think to match the current propaganda against that of 30 (or less) days ago.

It gives Trump the opportunity to blame Ukraine if it continues to attack the Russian refineries, giving him an excuse to withholding US arms that it needs to defend itself from being terrorized. Either way, Putin profits.

@mcnado many questions left after such a deal. Is the price of diesel under the price cap or not? How physically this volume of diesel will be transported out of Russia w/o agreement with Ukraine and EU partners (if EU signed such a deal with Iran it would have been hard to transport anything out of Iran w/o US permission)? Can’t such a deal worsen situation with diesel in Russia itself? What can Ukraine demand from US to stop attacks of refineries? And so on.

Indeed and on top of that it shows the US and its rogue leadership cannot be trusted with anything at all... Backstabbing practices all along, here in Europe and in Ukraine we will remember.

@mcnado Trump's preference has always been for Russia to achieve its goal of subjugating half of Europe again. This is what his old man brain remembers as the status quo, and it aligns with his worldview that the strong and wealthy should rule over the poor and weak. His instinct for grifting also made him give shaking down Ukraine a try, but he will always gravitate to whatever he thinks will be personally most profitable for him.

The 800,000 tons of diesel delivered between now and and the end of November is less than 2 days supply for the US.

We use about 500,000 tons of diesel A DAY.

@mcnado anything? like, say, offering weapons to China aiding Iran to kill our troops? he wouldn't do something so stupid and treasonous would....yeah we all know he did do that thing. so embarassing.

The estimate is that the amount of diesel being purchased from Russia will run this country for just over an hour.

@mcnado Trump knows (alas). This is symbolic. Symbolic so he can say he’s done something, which his supporters agree to treat as real though knowing it’s false. Symbolic of being in thrall to Putin.

For Putin, it’s a lifeline. And proof that he owns a US president.

@mcnado points to a real desperation, they know the high gas prices are killing them in the polls and there is not much they can do about it.
