⌨️ The Interop 2027 process is moving along, and now is the time for ranking proposals! And blogging about it! https://meyerweb.com/eric/thoughts/2026/10/14/my-interop-2027-rankings/

Is it tired in here, or is it me?

Remember Jort Sort? @jenn legend

I've started taking notes by hand in meetings and when I'm focused to remember to do stuff without getting distracted in the moment - the only trouble is I can't read my own writing half the time.

Interop 2027: The polls are open!

@Meyerweb and @bkardell talk about Interop 2027 - what's been submitted, people's thoughts so far, how to participate, and the difficulty of deciding.

Sometimes I think maybe I need a chair that I strap into like an F1 driver or an astronaut or something to keep my shoulders back.

Firefox 158 release notes for developers. JPEG XL is now enabled by default, with lossy and lossless compression, transparency, animation, and HDR. CSS typed arithmetic lets calc() divide values with different units, like 100vw / 1px, to get a unitless number. Notifications gain a navigate option with a URL to open on click, and WebTransport adds getStats(). Behind flags: the random() function, corner-shape, and import defer. #firefox #browser

Make your logo brighter than white. Chris Bennett built a tool that turns a logo into a gain-map JPEG, so the colors you pick shine up to 7.5 times brighter than plain white on HDR screens and stay a perfectly normal JPEG everywhere else. Light elements on dark backgrounds glow best. The page also shows how to paint text through such an image with background-clip: text, gated behind @media (dynamic-range: high). #color #image

Baseline update from this week's newsletter:

With Firefox 154, the `text-box` CSS properties are newly available.
And `checkVisibility()` is now widely available.

In 2026, the project advanced efforts to integrate #accessibility support data into #developer tools such as the Browser Compatibility Data (BCD) and Baseline, with a proof of concept using Web Platform Tests and ARIA-AT data. Work continues on filling data gaps and defining support statuses, with a TPAC 2026 breakout inviting community input!

Discovered you can wipe fireOS off the first gen echo show 5s, run @LineageOS and a very nice custom @homeassistant UI + our local voice assistant and now I'm single-handedly running through the second-hand stock on eBay to replace Google displays around the house.

"Water! Water!" the crowd shouted as it stormed a compound with data centres, armed with empty plastic bottles and jerry cans."

Rendering Markdown comments safely: setHTML(), DOMPurify, and Trusted Types. Agustin Barrientos shows how marked.js keeps raw HTML in comments and why “we sanitize” means little when library defaults differ so much. He defines one explicit allowlist in the SanitizerConfig format, uses it with setHTML() where available and DOMPurify as a fallback, and enforces Trusted Types so no one can bypass it with a raw innerHTML assignment. #security #html

☺️ having an extra day off in a week is the shit. I kinda wish we only worked 4 days

Sometimes I see these very convincing, clever, probably hard to detect scams - but very often it is pretty low effort and I bet it is a lot like mass mailings in general in the fact that the hit rate being low doesn't really matter, as long as it's wide enough?

https://blogs.igalia.com/mrego/aamtest-testing-accessibility-in-wpt/

This blog post covers the work @igalia has been doing to add a new type of tests in WPT, which allow testing the platform accessibility APIs directly.

Thanks to @nlnet for sponsoring this work.
