@eevee 's "The Rise of Whatever" blog post really resonates with me. The whole thing is a great read (go read it), but this quoted bit really captures a lot of why LLM AI slop is so incredibly distasteful to me.

I know, I know. "Blocking replies is impossible". "You can't stop people from disagreeing with you on the internet".
I've heard it all, and don't really care.
Here's my proposal: much like how I can set the post visibility here, I should be able to tell my server to drop any replies to that post.
Not "don't send notifications about replies". Drop them. Don't host them.
And compliant servers would honor that request in the UI.
A smart friend of mine recently said the only thing he'd use vibe coding for is something he didn't want to learn.
I agree. Ideally, you dont have to do a lot of stuff you dont want to learn, but it does happen.
I reinvent the wheel a lot. I have no regrets. It's also part of how I search for novel research items. Understanding things in ways other people don't, to find unexplored paths worth exploring.
My approach to software design is best described as when a crow tilt their head and makes small hops when they look at a trinket #software

“instead of inviting despair over a country that never was, the Fourth of July offers an opportunity to see the work more clearly. That’s what Indigenous people have been doing for centuries.
…
That means finally abandoning the struggle to get America to live up to something it never promised to be. If we can free ourselves of that, we might see that there’s a path forward, rooted in community and an unwavering commitment to a better future.”

Re last post, quote from https://eev.ee/blog/2025/07/03/the-rise-of-whatever/
"If I were a carpenter, and my colleagues got really into this new thing where you just chuck 2×4s at a spinning whirling mass of blades until a chair comes out the other side… you know, I just might want to switch careers."
Excellent quote, especially as I was reading my cousins blog on making chairs on https://www.finnkn.com/notes/making-a-chair-part-five-shaping
One thing which is clear from his blog is that good woodcraft requires precision and intent. Same as good code.

There’s one thing I’ve noticed about the Mastodon aggressive block types of servers; I just do not care about most messages and instead let it go as a transient stream.
"I don't ever wanna disappoint my fans, and especially in Philadelphia. Y'all mean too much to me. There's absolutely no way that I could perform across a picket line and pick up money when I know that people are out there fighting for a living wage."
- LL Cool J via Twitter
Some people talk about minimizing social media time and the associated doomscrolling, but every day Mastodon reminds me of how many kind, caring people there are. And how many I'm privileged to know on here. (And how many have adorable cats. Or dogs. Or goats.) People who appreciate the beauty around us; people who want to save the environment; people who want a good life for everyone.
It lifts me up, even when the news is horrific. Thank you all.
Help a journalist out? I'm looking to talk to researchers, engineers, students or entrepreneurs who are considering leaving the U.S. because they lost funding or are worried about visas or anything like that. I'm at mimsical.94 on Signal
Try Violenxe.
In all seriousness, it seems that hijacked governments have followed the pattern laid out by End User License Agreements to pass legislation; Bundle long and unwieldy clauses so that folks don’t read them and click agree.
PSA: Don't install Call of Duty WWII on PC. There's apparently an RCE exploit via game chat people are using to hack each other's PCs.

I’ve got better things to do than write about Liquid Glass (again), and yet, here I am.

It is absolutely insane that the New York Times is granting anonymity to famous extremist race science activists in order for them to launch political attacks. More than the anonymity, the complete lack of relevant context here is egregious.
