The minute I saw some of my favorite channels starting to self-censor because certain topics or even just words were getting videos de-monetized, I saw the cage doors closing in on them.
Then came the glazed desperation, the stilted begging "smash that like button" and "click the bell" and put your left foot in and shake it all about-- they are being dragged around by the nose, tweaked like dancing puppets.
When the internet became a thing I was thrilled as hell for the long tail of infinitely varied, obscure, thriving content. Instead everything is brutally driven towards virality, only the supremely most watched, least healthy maximum focus gets rewarded-- then trotted around like the big stuffie prize at the carnival-- and everyone else is just fucked.
The injustice, waste, and distortion of it all is sickening.
