As someone who first learned their statistics from ecology during the "actually cats kill a lot of songbirds, we have proof" era: yes, this is the fedi battle I need

If it wasn't worth writing it's not worth reading...

Summary: AI fanbois paid by RedHat corpolinux big mad that Free software developers don't want to read their spam mail.
In the dumbest situation just hold the concert in front of the venue for the people who bought tickets and see what happens. There's better alternatives but 🤷

Sheeran could've held his concerts anywhere, drawn massive crowds, and created public art that would be remembered for generations. Yes there would've been logistics nightmares involved but that's life. I guess he's too comfortable with the money now and here we are.
Every time somebody mentions DHH it feels like I've stepped in shit. Does anybody else get that feeling?
My wife is a software developer with over ten years experience in object oriented programming and a focus on C# (and Mono). She needs remote work in the USA and has a resume including finance and game dev. If anybody knows any openings for a software generalist with a long track of experience, keen on doing good work as a player on a team (not gunning for leadership atm!) gimme a shout!

Sometimes you just have to yell bad apple in a crowded theatre
Ya boi is hoarding those carotenoids like nobody's business.
Just for clarity #DoctorWho is canonically against #EthnicCleansing and would repurpose a hashtag for #Gaza without a second thought. Taking something frivolous and turning it into a tool to save lives is what #TheDoctor does. Read your own texts people.
Schools and parents still teach that expertise is an exercise in authority. I see this in my job when people try to accept advice I give when it's wrong (it's research, that happens). I also see it when people reject solid, basic, advice until the more senior PI repeats it. I see it in how my kids are taught. I see it in my conversations with community members who treat it as a status symbol. So as public health deals with RFK I've been thinking about how this becomes a problem.
I contribute to extremely applied research on mundane but politically spicy topics such as health and inequity. I have a degree in chemistry and a PhD in evolutionary biology that gave me enough time wrestling with the gnarlier parts of statistical algorithms to be an expert on most* of applied statistics. I try to respect that work when posting.
The way expertise is treated on social media and in daily life is broken, and it's hurting all of us.

In case you're anti fascist but you currently have more money than time, give the gift of cash to the people dealing with #ICE fuckery

Oh no, don't threaten me with a good time. This is a good time to check if your retirement plan offers an AI-free mutual fund... 🤔
