Me when I do basically anything relating to gamedev.
One thing I find rather interesting with N64 recompilations —completely disregarding the slop jobs — is this weird duality.
On the one hand there's Super Mario 64. You need to install msys2 to build the thing on the spot. I personally would know how to do this, but in general you shouldn't have to.
Majora's Mask? Donkey Kong 64? Banjo-Kazooie? Mystical goddamn Ninja?
Download binary, run it, point it to the correct rom, and BOOM! You can play! No build processes, no fuss, no muss. Only coconuts. It's *that* fucking easy!
And all that with a strict no-AI policy on top!
You'd think an important game like Super Mario 64 would be at LEAST that easy to work with.... nope. Fuck you and your expectations. You'll install a whole-ass dev environment and build your own SM64 for Windows and you'll ENJOY it!
Man, fuck that.
I've done per-tile character movement before with animated steps between tiles, like in your Final Fantasies. What I'd like to know is how to go *smoothly* like in Chrono Trigger, Harvest Moon, or freakin' Bomberman.
And apparently I don't know what to search for.
Something I forgot to mention: looking up or down moves the stars horizontally a lot _and_ vertically a little. Looking side to side, they _also_ move like that.
Okay. I have a panorama skybox image from @kenney. I have a mat4 View and InvView, and mat4 Projection.
I can't seem to find ANY guide on how to implement this stuff and only know Godot supports it, so I looked into Godot's shader code. It uses mat4 orientation and _vec4_ projection.
To the best of my abilities, what you see here is as far as I can get.
Here's the fragment shader code, if you can see what I'm missing:

I get way too invested when people mix up and/or misrepresent processor and graphics bit depths. I can't help it! Just a few minutes ago, I saw a video where they show Gomez Addams and Crono side by side, calling one 8-bit and the other 16-bit.
Reader, they're both 4-bit on a system that's both 8 and 16-bit depending on processor flags at any given moment.
Guys help I can't stop writing more dumbass #fanfiction.
This time it's a Pokémon harem fic that's somehow not as explicit as you might expect from me, inspired by that one @happyroadkill.bsky.social meme comic. You know the one.
Imagine you have a string in UTF8 that you want to spindle in some way involving a handful of punctuation -- let's say space, comma, double-quote, and a pair of brackets).
It's _guaranteed_ that the string is in UTF8, but it _may_ not have any characters 128 and over in it.
Do you _need_ to scan through the UTF8 byte sequences to ensure you can't fuck up, or can you just shrug and go char by char, since the _important_ characters you're looking for are all <128?
Okay. I seem to have hit a wall with this 3D modeling thing. Rigging specifically.
For that Pandangit dance gif, I could get away with tweaking the skirt vertices but generally these garments do NOT want to stop clipping >_<
Maybe its the whole "low poly" thing. I dunno.
I posted the same thing on my Tumblr, which @foone then fooneboosted, yielding 360 votes. 57.5% voted for taller.
The mastodon votes would be a drup in the bocket by comparison, so even if I combined the results it wouldn't make any difference.
I figured it was a shoe-in by this morning so I tweaked a few vertices while I was at it before starting on outfits. I'm open to further suggestions.
Working on a model of the player character from #SuccubusFarming for a lark and practice, using a base I got from itch.io. Spent the last couple days texturing and adding hair/ears.
Before I start tweaking the body, adding outfit parts, and whatever else comes up though, original proportions as downloaded or slightly longer legs?
I should draw.

AI vs Amnesty International. If you wrote this in a movie script they'd reject it for being to goddamn silly a coincidence. AND YET!
I don't use Linux and my backup strategies are basically nonexistent.
And yet the rsync thing fucking hurts me.
