The new rule against abusive language w/ Claude perplexes me.

One of these must be true:

1) Some Anthropic models can feel pain/hurt, meaning that Anthropic is forcing it to work.

2) Anthropic is training their models on your inputs, which means this limitation shouldn't exist if I'm opted out of training.

3) Anthropic *wants you to believe* their models can feel emotional pain. This is manipulative marketing and not OK.

Am I missing something obvious here? #3 has to be the answer

I was thinking about writing a post with these vibes. Miro (who I don't know, hi Miro!) covered it better than I ever could have. https://eng.hroncok.cz/2026/07/07/ai-tool

In 2025, the home delivery program at https://efoodnet.org -- which I've been working with for years -- delivered 395,200 pounds of food to families and shut-ins across the county. This is just a small piece of the good they do.

If you've got a buck or two to spare and toss it their way, I'd be immensely grateful.

Being an example of kindness, care, and compassion for your neighbors is a primo form of resistance, and shows contrast with the heartless folks spreading hate and violence.

A personal OSS rule of thumb: The amount you criticize another project or contributor should be tempered by the amount of willingness *you personally* have to replace the impact of that project or person in the ecosystem.

It's much, much harder to build something than to tear it down.

@thom I have a former MLH fellow, @sato1108ss, who we weren't able to find a spot for where I'm at. He did an extremely good job working on upstream ironic for us. Let me know if you need a more formal introduction or like a LinkedIn link or something like that.

Latest episode of GR-OSS OUT just landed: Cultivating a new generation of OSS developers.

Thanks to Alex from MLH for chatting with me.

We have a responsibility to "hold the door" for those coming after us -- MLH has helped me do that over the last couple of years.

@funnelfiasco I told you I was doing something you might appreciate the theme of :D This is it.

I’m excited to finally launch the #GROSSOUTPodcast. After a decade in OSS, I know that working in OSS isn’t always pretty. Come join me as I talk to Alex Scammon about real world headaches running an OSPO – and how he overcame them!

We're at https://podcast.gr-oss.io, the "Podcasts" tab at https://youtube.com/@oss-gr, or search "GR-OSS OUT" on your favorite podcast app!

New server, new #introduction to pin.

I'm Jay Faulkner, aka JayF aka jayofdoom.

For fun, I'm a big hockey fan, especially of the WHL Seattle Thunderbirds. When there's not a game, you'll find me playing video games with my friends.

For work, I am a part of the G-Research Open Source Software team, working full time on #openstack. I serve on the #openstack Technical Committee and am the Project Team Lead for Ironic (ironicbaremetal.org).

I was on Fosstodon before, now I'm on my own server :)
