did encounter a nice guide about a tool called 'uv' but since it's made by an OpenAI satellite I'm disinclined to trust it

folks. how do I #python on #debian. my brain is small. obviously don't want to use the system python because obviously. so do I get the 3.14.6 source tarball and build it and end up with `/usr/bin/python3.14` and then per-project venvs using it

Seen on LinkedIn, from an "AI-first" software company:

> The [sector] has moved past the AI experimentation phase. Now comes the harder part: using it in ways that actually improve performance.

What an astonishing self-own - the experimentation phase did not find AI improves performance??

inexplicable clattering noise from the front left wheel area has become explicable

Day 1 of unemployment and I've had a productive afternoon making inserts out of foamcore board for the display cabinet above my home office desk

aha! It's the Olivia Hill Rule:

> If you're a fascist, you're not welcome to play this game. It's against the rules. If you're reading this and thinking, "You just call everyone you disagree with a fascist," then you're probably a fascist, or incapable of drawing inferences from context and acknowledging a dangerous political climate that causes the oppressed to be hyperbolic. Don't play this game. Heal yourself. Grow. Learn. Watch some Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood or something.

what was the community moderation policy where you say "no fascists" and then eject anyone who argues the definition?

it's not even correct for memes

however Did You Know you can just buy replacement shower enclosure roller parts for like £9 for a complete set, replace the gunked-up, rusted-up rollers, shove the enclosure back into position with brute force and ignorance, caulk everything back together with a tube of silicone sealant that's been open since about 2022, and once the sealant's dried you _have a working shower_ and _with doors that roll, not grind?_

when we moved into this flat, the boiler wasn't working

when we got the boiler fixed and the hot water pressure went back to normal, the bath tap in the upstairs bathroom sprung a leak... long story short, we had to lift much of the floor and disconnect the bathtub entirely to fix it

yesterday, cleaning the shower enclosure in the downstairs bathroom with some enthusiasm, one of the panes popped out... followed shortly by the entire enclosure coming adrift from the shower tray, the wall, and itself

this left us with exactly zero usable baths/showers 🙃

small fry compared to what's happening in Tehran or Gaza but still gutting when it's in your neighbourhood
