i did find a couple of fun games last time i did it. emphasis on a couple. but also. i'm really busy rn and i maybe just want to vibe out and play more death stranding 2 on mute while watching something stupid before going to bed

it's steam next fest again, which means it's time for me to get tired thinking about if i want to do another review thread of steam next fest games

same old story, pardner

today is the day i was reminded that i can read Roamin' Dad any time i want, thanks to it being online https://www.somethingawful.com/series/roamin-dad/

random thought:

• you should have forums for your hobby / subculture / open source thing / etc., that are not discord, and that are openly accessible in HTML online. you should try to make those appear on google and be like the place to discuss the thing, if that's at all doable.

• many online subcultures used to have a politeness norm of "don't ask questions without first googling it". this rule is obsolete. googling it doesn't work anymore. stackexchange is dead. it is very difficult already to find reliable information. you need to make it as easy and inviting as possible for curious people and newcomers to get used to asking human beings about the thing. this means tolerating common questions rather than replying to them like "read the FAQ/TFM/search the forum" etc.

• in fact, actively establish spaces specifically meant for people who are too intimidated to ask questions. in a reddit-type forum, do "weekly quick q&a thread—all questions welcome" kinda thing (it's less intimidating to post a brief comment than making a question post). do "weekly casual chat thread" and "beginner's corner" and "off-topic fridays" and stuff like that, too.

• and on the converse, actively discourage people from posting chatbot answers, through both forum rules and fostering forum culture. don't be aggressive about it but also don't be lenient.

is this gonna be Iris's Newest Favorite Avalanches Album? Since I Left You is pretty untouchable. but like, out of the three post-SILY albums, this one is DEFINITELY already a huge frontrunner, simply by appealing to my specific post-digital maximalist tastes. if i MADE music i'd want it to sound like this

it truly is everything i hoped for, which is a chopped and screwed future funk DJ set by two dudes who haven't been marinating in The Vaporwave Culture for the past decade and change, but ARE total cratedigger freaks for 70s bubblegum and funk. also they have an insane rolodex and one really, really diligent gal at their label who's amazing at getting copyright clearances

NEW AVALANCHES ALBUM GOES FUCKING WILD AS HELL

with this season being so dead for anime, we're getting back to some series that we dropped a while back. and you know what THAT means: it is finally time to finish GaoGaiGar

C̶a̶r̶ garbage truck chase!

make a turn based tactics rpg next, Remedy. next logical step. we know you love doing goofy unexpected shit. c'mon

i WILL say that i think it's really funny and also kind of telling about The State Of The Industry that the absolute coolest, most peak thing Remedy could think of doing for this game's big gameplay twist was "hey, remember Earthbound? man, Earthbound ruled, right?". this AAA game wants to be an indie game *so bad*

i will say going into Resonant with the mentality of "okay it's basically a mascot platformer collectathon if the mascot was a sad little wet cat man who murdered like six hundred people" will do you a lot more favors than expecting a taut Devil May Cry-type experience

i would say they're more or less on par with each other, honestly-- flawed hack-and-slashes that make up for their shortcomings in presentation. Resonant definitely has the edge in writing quality, graphics and collectible puzzles, but Romeo has more frantic, dynamic fights and a little more aesthetic jazz. i think it's a dead heat between em

finished the main story of Control Resonant last night, and while i've enjoyed the game overall, the thing i keep coming back to is "okay, did i like that *more* or *less* than Romeo Is A Deadman"

I met my wife while sabotaging fox hunts together. We started dating when we found out we're both furries. If the fursuits weren't so expensive, we'd be sabotaging fox hunts dressed as foxes.
