maybe part of the disconnect is that i generally gauge people based on what they *do*, whereas it seems very common to gauge people based on who they *are* (or are perceived to be) — even among leftists, despite that i think of it as a pretty reactionary, maybe christian sort of impulse

the absolute last straw for me on twitter was the realization that my timeline was constantly full of nasty terf stuff, because all the other trans people i followed kept posting fucking screenshots of it to say how bad it was

as if it's all fake, just points in a game with two sides, not words that might actually have an impact on anyone. feelings are weakness and we are forever trapped in the shadow of something awful

i promise you that you do not want instabans from a glance at a repulsive tweet. these ones look to have been pretty cut and dry, but i have seen more than enough people get hit for something that was emotional or ironic or referential or whatever — the Extremely Online, all the moreso. and then they only tend to get reversed after *sigh* a lot of people yelling about it

(or possibly selection bias, where i only hear about the cases people yell about)

people are also upset that someone (the KDE account i think?) characterized linking to some rando commenter's racist tweets in the middle of a policy discussion as akin to "walking into a bar and punching someone"

but uh well yes. it is kind of like that. "this you?" is only normal behavior if you have racked up ten thousand hours on twitter. i don't think less-Online people tend to do that actually

i wish everyone had been this mad about kwin removing the visual desktop switcher on the grounds that it wasn't exposed to users despite being in the global shortcuts list. i understand why they weren't, but,

A couple of weeks ago I showed a preview of a new mode for Mines, in my puzzle collection. I'm pleased to say that the new Mines is now completed and live! You can now play Minesweeper on a wide range of tilings in your browser

As well as the support for lots of grid types, there's also a new user preference (off by default) to make it easier to play on them. When you click on a clue square to potentially clear around it, the existing flags adjacent to the square light up, to make it easier to count them and work out how many more mines you're still expecting. Particularly useful in the hat tiling, where it's easy to mistake exactly what is adjacent to what!

I expect different people will prefer different grids. Personally I think the triangular grid is particularly tricky and puzzly; the hexagonal honeycomb makes a gentle introduction; the Cairo, Floret and Kites tilings are a nice set in between those extremes; and of course the aperiodic tilings are there to keep you on your toes and ready for anything.
