#TOR

Anyone here knows (and maybe able to assist) building a big funnel for airflow stirring purposes?

Something like ~1x1m down to something small like ~10x50cm

lol, the LLMs are getting to real 😂

chatgpt can't generate #NixOS configuration. When it should put stuff into overrides it just throws them into systemPackages instead.

But when you then follow up and mention override it does it perfectly...

And here is the documentation for these kind (and all other) paths on windows:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/standard/io/file-path-formats

You can use WinObj from the SysinternalsSuite to browse some of them (and look at their ACLs)

I thought we all knew that. Anyway, if you didn't, 7-Zip can open device paths and then allow you to browse ext3/4 on windows.

Also speaking of this thread here: https://cultofshiv.wtf/@SleepyCatten/117285847168930207

Is this the #Fedi's version of Torrents #PXE (Peerlist exchange)?

Hey @ordnung we need to increase the character limit. Can't even hit reply-all and write "take me off of this list" as one typically does 🙃

So is this folder now called:
* 0x20C29C0D0A
* 0x20C2
* 0x2000
* 0x0020

who knows.

Oh and finally the filesystem all of this played out on is #btrfs, so if it does have a way to dump the raw name that would also help in this case.

And if you wonder what wrote these cursed file-/foldernames to disk, it was #rclone.

But they probably were already cursed on the HTTP remote it pulled them from...

Or just a regular space 0x0020

Oh and funnily depending on how I try to read that folder name I get all three ways returned...

So I don't really know what this folder is actually called on disk.

#Linux really needs some debug tool to just hand you the hex of files and folders in a specific path.

And I feel pitty for everyone that has to deal with #UTF8 vs #UTF16 on the daily.

Oh and you can also have a UTF-16 whitespace.

#C and #Cpp programmers probably like them even more, as "EN QUAD" is 0x2000, aka. it ends on 0x00 which is also a string terminator...

In #KDE these characters were just stripped from the GUI. However clicking on the folder worked and it in general behaved as if these characters weren't part of the folder name at all.

Where I stumbled over the bug was another application running in wine that was supposed to generate a folder tree and hash all of the files. Well it trimmed these characters not just from the GUI but also internally apparently and then failed to browse into that folder as - well - it mangled the name...

That not being rendered in the GUI actually made figuring this shit out even harder.

#bash also doesn't render them.

Thankfully #7zip showed them as "[]" for whatever reason and allowed me to copy the foldername raw into a hex editor to see what was going on.

I hate #encodings and especially #UTF16...

Everyone a happy random "ഊ" in your filenames.

That's UTF-16 0x0D0A which when read as UTF-8 gets interpreted as CRLF aka. a windows line break.

And when you used the UTF-8 function for trimming a string it'll break everything.

Oh and while we're on it also a happy "슜" which when read the same way will be "Â" followed by a string terminator control character.

Why I mention this? Well it just broke things. Also #KDE doesn't render them in the GUI.

#UTF8 #UTF16 #programming #development

(Or having all desktop applications use one GPU but have the other one dedicated to a single game or heavy duty application like e.g. 3d render. In order to prevent e.g. a youtube video flushing your 3d rendering project out of the vRAM when you're looking up a tutorial or just some 2nd screening)

I wonder how well having multiple GPUs works on #Linux. Anyone running a multi GPU setup?

Not the NVLink way where they're all doing the same thing, but as in you've two smaller (not overpriced because of being able to fit AI models) ones and run multiple things.

Like e.g. you put OBS onto one of them to do video encoding for streaming and have the game run on the other one.

Maybe even with two different ones?

Anyone already tried that and having some real world data?

OH:

A: Why did you set the old password on the systems again?
B: I didn't have access to update the entry in the password manager so I just updated the password on the system to match the entry...

And because the PT-SW-HD41USB doesn't have a Web-UI also:
+ a mini PC
+ custom software to handle the RS232 and allow switching inputs remotely

But that in turn would also allow to switch the PT-SW-HD41MV (or 2nd PT-SW-HD41USB) out for a way cheaper PT-SW-HD41-48G* for still 222 Euro.

* that compared to the others could actually do 8k60 and not just cap out at 4k60 like the rest
