sRGB for "image-like" source textures I mean. Not normal maps or things like that. Note that almost every texture you have will already *be* sRGB, they just won't be labelled that way. JPEGs and PNGs and so on are already sRGB format. Just turn it on.

Starting a new project? Turn on and enforce the following right now:

-sRGB for all rendertargets and source textures.
-premultiplied alpha in both textures and blending.
-fixed-point world time and world position.

Retrofitting these after the fact is a giant pain. Learn from my (repeated) fail!

fruit confirmed canon in metal gear solid https://mastodon.gamedev.place/@pupxel/117480075755599575

it probably holds up for 7th gen game consoles though

i have an antagonistic theory i can't prove that fruit is less common in games with PBRealism, but if it were true it would be largely because games featuring PBRealism as their visual style are less likely to feature giant hovering fruit in their gameplay, and there's fewer studios with big budgets for lots of incidental background details. less to do with anything about PBR itself tho.

fruit is canon in Gears of War: E-Day btw

i think they should put more fruit in video games

"CVE-2026-99999" is the fakest sounding CVE name. That is like Hideo Kojima or Kotaro Uchikoshi had just learned what a "CVE" is and decided to write a plot point about a macguffin mega-CVE that is going to cause enormous problems for the protagonists

Ken Thompson, 1983: wouldn't it be awful if someone snuck secret code into a compiler that broke our ability to trust the output of a computer

AI Guy, 2026: wouldn't it be cool if we stuck something we know can't be trusted into every part of the computer

i can remember places i've been to (or only seen in photos) decades ago, and navigate them successfully. i can describe images i saw once when i was a kid. but i have literally no 'verbal memory', i can't remember movie lines, or lyrics to any of my favorite songs, and when it comes to programming, and terminal commands? well. i've been using linux distros for almost 20 years and still, daily, look up things like "linux how to find files with extension". it is NOT a good operating system for me

I'm not too worried about the ssl cert thing being 4. I had to generate a cert for code signing an app once for work, and I have a hard time believing anyone interacts with these tools willingly.
