Anybody need someone to live in a cottage in the woods and do a little gardening and witchcraft and maybe even a little bit of painting? If so, I’m your gal. #getfedihired

Few more buildings added!

And as I went to France, and as one of my parents' friend often goes to Spain, we kindly asked her to bring back a Yamal jersey. And she did. My son was beyond happy. A "real" (for kids) Spanish team jersey actually coming from Spain, you can imagine the street cred my son would gain with this.

And today was the first day he wore it in public, and he went to the park to join the other kids for the first time in weeks (that's the confidence boost the jersey gave him).

The Black Panther Party was founded 60 years ago ✊️

From a 2016 article commemorating its 50th anniversary:

"The work of the Black Panthers remains important for several reasons. First, they remind us that the problem of police brutality has long been with us [...]

Second, the BPP offers a good model of grassroots activism and ideology in practice."

Ohtani has been 100% of Japanese people's favorite baseball player in recent years (it was Ichiro before) and "Meshi" was everyone's favorite soccer player and whatever team in played in (Barça?) was their favorite team.
Now, Messi is about to retire so he's not their favorite player anymore, and I'm starting to feel that Yamal is replacing him (Haaland and MBappé are also contenders for "everyone's favorite player in Japan" position).
So... as my son's birthday was in September ⤵️

Tokyo is looking into constructing small public crematoria as concerns have emerged over meeting demand for cremations in an aging population, along with the increasing price of the procedure. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2026/10/15/japan/society/tokyo-new-crematoriums/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #japan #society #tokyo #death #elderly #cremations #crematoria

Also, he wanted a Samurai Blue jersey, but those things are insanely expensive. Still, one of the kids won't go to the park without wearing his. We got my son a cool Samurai Blue T-shirt that looks like a jersey, but that's just not the same, right?

He also became a fan of the Spanish team during the World Cup for some reason?

Young Japanese people are hilarious with sports are they're totally predictable with what team or player they'll root for. ⤵️

Anyone can join in, but the main group or four/five is pretty hardcore, and they actually play in a football school somewhere in town or something. So, without being bullies or anything, they're not always so kind with the kids who can't play well (you know how 10-12 yo kids can be), so after playing with them at the beginning of summer vacation, my son stopped (unless some of his close friends are there) and I know it makes him a little sad.

My son seems okay with it, but I'm a little sad for him. Let me explain. As you may know, he found himself a new passion in football since the World Cup. He also started playing with his friends. He's not the only one; since the World Cup, a bunch of kids from the neighborhood started playing in the park almost daily after school (which annoys me as it's usually when I get to spent time with the crows there but it's not possible at the moment, but that's another story for another day). ⤵️

This very jammy fig. And some hand-cut cured local black pig.

Bought this from a stall with a very grumpy stallholder.

Although tbf, I'd be grumpy too if I had to deal with tourists all day. 😬

Been in 4 European capitals in the last 3 weeks (Paris, Brussels, London, Amsterdam). All by train. Feels pretty amazing.

My first book, The Dream Pyjamas, was a huge hit at 44 Grieve Avenue, though sadly overlooked by every major award. My second, 36 years later, has had slightly better luck...Drystone - A Life Rebuilt has been shortlisted for the Saltire Society Non-Fiction Book of the Year 2026. The biggest literary prize in Scotland.

I think about where I've come from, and I genuinely cannot believe I'm here.
