Its all about "free markets" and "let the market decide" until you have competition that shows how full of bullshit you are and then you run to daddy Trump saying to stop these bad Chinese models from entering our market.
The irony of OpenAI and Anthropic running to the government to save them whenever there’s competition and it’s this government that complains about “handouts” and communism.
Like I would have thought someone would go to prison or something but no, its been redirected to "model capabilities" and the press is talking about "rogue" models and such, not what OpenAI just did.
Reading that whole OpenAI post describing them unleashing a bunch of bots on Hugging Face as an "unprecedented cyber incident," is a master class in branding and marketing. Lol and branding what happened as OpenAI now working to "help calibrate on what models are now capable of" is top notch propaganda skills.
You gotta hand it to OpenAI, billing this whole thing as a *partnership* between OpenAI and Hugging Face when what actually happened was that Hugging Face found someone using a bunch of bots to exploit security vulnerabilities and found out that that someone was OpenAI, lol.
Talk about good marketing or whatever you want to call it, by OpenAI.

Given another round of hype from these companies, now is as good a day as any to share. Some points from the document:

When physicist & best selling author Chanda Prescod-Weinstein sent me this declaration on AI written & signed by a bunch of mathematicians, I was initially super skeptical because I had seen a whole bunch of such “declarations” which, at best, are distractions from the actual problems we should be discussing. But once I started reading, I was mostly nodding my head up and down in complete agreement and super impressed at how spot on so many of the points were.
Seeing the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, calling Lindsey Graham "corigious voice" is not shocking to me. It made me remember how back in 2023, UNHCR signed a Joint Visibility Strategy with the State Department, detailing all the ways in which UNHCR would promote the image of the US - right down to the number of posts that UNHCR would publish each month about American generosity.
Bringing utopia to the world, one "super intelligent" machine at a time. I can't wait for all the new super wealthy people who are going to "make the world a better place" with the impending Anthropic and OpenAI IPOs 🥴
