- allow any number of ad hoc exceptions as long as they are recognized as such and not a change to the rules

no one talking normally will say "and" with an æ like that, but that is how you say it sounding things out slowly one at a time

but if you're doing a lesson at this point it is actively harmful to bring that up and create a distraction

(source: my dad trying to teach me to read chinese and the *tangents* he'd go on; multiple profs who've done the same and whose classes i'd either failed or passed only because i skipped class to do the readings)
