I've been hating on #TailwindCSS since day 1. Single use CSS classes is absolute nonsense compared to what CSS was meant to be. Today I have to migrate a page from regular CSS to Tailwind, and I just found out Tailwind even flattens the browser's default styling, so the same HTML looks completely unstyled out of the box.

So I've looked for a way to reproduce the default styling in Tailwind, and I found out about Tailwind Plus: they'll show you a page design and you can pay for them to tell you the combinations of Tailwind classes you need to use to get it.

So they invented a new webpage design vocabulary resting on CSS, flattened the browser default stylesheet and now they're selling their own templates because their vocabulary is unintuitive? What kind of absolute grift based on Web standards is this shit?

Look folks the genie is out of the bottle. The genie went from $20/mo to $200/mo. The genie is spending $8 for every dollar it makes. The genie is reactivating every coal power plant it can. The genie needs 60% of your town's water. The genie is hiding $1.65 trillion in debt. But it's out of the bottle! The genie is out of the bottle folks.

Once again, "AI systems" is poorly defined, so I will make distinctions. Machine learning is still extremely useful when the search space is large and the expected correct answer is very specific, see protein folding or even pentesting.

However, and I can't stress this enough, there is absolutely no value for natural language communication with computers other than for grift. It has fooled so many people, no matter how smart they are or think they are, into drifting away from actual humans in favor of a simulacrum which they happily give credence to beyond its actual capabilities because of this natural language interface they are so used to with other humans.

Text parsing/processing? Completely fine (in this magic wand waving context where externalities have been somehow solved). Simulated conversations, no matter the end goal? I draw the line.

I can't attest about the accuracy of this piece, but it makes a strong argument for why the AI bubble hasn't popped yet despite showing no tangible results compared to the marketing claims: it has devolved into a full-fledged cult and not buying into the faith, even superficially, can cost one's livelihood. And so the public positive reinforcement loop goes on, while in private people are often skeptical at best, and rightfully so.
